A note about the artwork
Most of the artwork came from various cover editions or artwork included in the books. However, there are a few pieces of art that I'd like to give credit to the artists for:
All Mistborn character art was done by / mirandameeks except for the last piece of character art, which was done by me :)

YES! MOAR RECOGNITION OF THE COSMERE! Seriously, there's still so many people missing out, so videos like this are great for introducing people to Sanderson's wonderful Cosmere. Do you plan on ever getting those super expensive but beautiful leatherbound editions of Elantris, The Final Empire, and Well of Ascension? Those editions are amazing Also, I like the thumbnail!

Mistborn book 4-6 was really fun and entertaining, a lighter tone compared to the first 3. Stormlight Archive is AMAZING. Elantris was good. War Breaker was certainly not my cup of tea but it was good regardless. Sanderson's newest book Skyward was great albeit a bit cliché. Brandon is great at creating quirky and funny characters!

Each book I read of his further solidifies Brandon Sanderson as my favorite author of all time. I started with the Stormlight Archive, picking The Way of Kings up at Books-a-Million simply because it was a long book for a good price that would hopefully keep me occupied for a while, but I purchased Words of Radiance and Oathbringer before even finishing the first book. I realized shortly thereafter that the Stormlight Archive has easily become my favorite fantasy series (and it isn't even halfway finished yet).

A nice video! I would add at least Secret History to the list. It's a huge eye opener for the machinations of the Cosmere. I really enjoy all of his books (that I've read so far). I picked up Way of Kings last year after hearing about it. I'm about halfway through all the Cosmere related books now. I will say that my one concerns is that there is a ton of related content not actually in the books currently out; there's a lot on boards and from signing questions. I know there's a LONG way to go with all the various series (see the TEN planned Stormlight books), but I almost wish there was less information available. I can honestly see that as more of a deterrent to people wanting to get into the universe.

Great video, and very nice use of the artwork as you tell about the books. The energy and enthusiasm comes through. While I understand why, I did notice that you left out some of his smaller books. For example, Shadows of Silence and the Forests of Hell, a fantasy horror story in the Cosmere, which was submitted and published in a themed anthology on strong women, and Sixth of Dusk, another short submitted and published in a different themed anthology. White Sand is more significant and was published alone, but is a graphic novel rather then prose. It does, however, introduce Kris, the character responsible for writing the Ars Arcanum, found at the end of other books. Also, while I understand referring to the Wax and Wayne Mistborn books as the second era, the original plan was for a medieval trilogy, a modern (kind of, think '80s) trilogy, and a future space opera where technology and magic have evolved to space travel. I would refer to those as first, second, and third eras. The Alloy of Law was an in between book to give Brandon a break between other, larger books. This is why it is a little more care free. It was well enough received that it became four books, but I would call them era 1.5, rather than 2. The short answer, if you read something from Brandon and find that there is no reference or tie to Earth, chances are good that it is the Cosmere. Of course, the video would have been no fun with just the short answer. :)
@ebnovels
@ebnovels 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I wanted to give an overview of the “main” stories in the Cosmere. Sanderson has written so much all together though that it’s almost hard to keep track 😆 I know what you’re referring to with second era, but I believe I read somewhere by Sanderson himself that the two series were referred to so much as era one and two that he’s adopted that now as well. Don’t quote me on that, but I think that’s what I read 😊 As for the art, all the artists are linked! I definitely recommend checking them out :)
@scootskute
@scootskute 5 жыл бұрын
Please don't get me wrong. I agree that you need to set some limits on your video for length, pacing, continuity, and general efforts to keep it interesting. I continue to think that you did a great job here. I was also not trying to say you got the era numbering wrong, though I now believe it may have come across that way. From answers that I've heard Brandon give at signing events it wouldn't surprise me at all that he would go with the flow rather than claim to be the authority and pronounce everyone else wrong. One such question was about character name pronunciation. He remarked that he doesn't care how we pronounce a name as long as we enjoy what he has created. He also shared a story of a friend who refused to accept that Thom, in the Wheel of Time, has a mustache though it is an identifying feature often described in the books. We have been given license to enjoy his books with any mental edits we like. That attitude would easily carry over to naming sequences of book groups or time aras in his stories. If you read it or not, it is consistent with his attitude. I continue to think of them as 1 and 1.5, but I've seen enough KZbin content creators call them 1 and 2, that I may be forced to give in just to avoid having to translate on my head as I watch.

I thought the Wax and Wane series was not a part of the trilogy of trilogies. I might be wrong, however I was told the time settings were 'the middle ages', modern time, and the final is a futuristic space opera. Also let's not forget to mention that Elantris is getting a sequel! I'm so hyped.

So I really liked this video, but I thought there was a couple of things you could've done to fully expand on the worlds. I think when talking about the short stories you should've mentioned Arcanum Unbounded, so people interested in the short stories could find them. I also think you should've at least mentioned White Sand, which whilst not a written novel is still a valid part of the Cosmere. Otherwise great video! You really did the work justice and I really hope you've inspired some people to read them

The video is already up, so what’s the point in saying what you thought I should’ve done differently? You could’ve just said, “for those interested in the short stories, check out Arcanum Unbounded and White Sand.” Instead, rather than sharing your love of Sanderson with another fan or providing the info you would’ve liked to have seen, you decided to say what you thought I should’ve done. How is that helpful?

You don't NEED to read Warbreaker before Stormlight, but as someone who didn't I would highly recommend everyone to read Warbreaker first. There are some really cool reveals that I totally missed because I hadn't read Warbreaker.

Hey, i would like to disagree with the Warbreaker system not being flushed out. When you think about it, the most advances in the Cosmere concerning Investiture has been done on Nalthis (Warbreaker) and Silverlight (We have not seen a lot from there yet). And according to words of Brandon, as of now, Investiture can be measured in terms of breaths. Thus, going from there downwards, you can start discerning how matematically their powers would work, and reach a very strong conclusion as to how many breaths would lead you to X amount of power (as explained thoroughly by Vasher to Vivenna). As well as, what you need to use that power. As we know, the whole Cosmere works on Intent (with capital "I") and thus, the "awakening" aspect of their magic system could be stripped down to base commands. This is also the main conflict when talking about Nightblood. Because, just like the Artificial Intelligence systems that we are seeing now, base commands like "Destroy Evil" without the context or Intent of a realized human being, can be very tricky. Just like when you tell an AI system to remove nudity in images or videos, it could take down, for example, the naked shoulders of a girl (due to different shirts and camera angles) and considers it as full nudity. I think that system is one of the most flushed out, and most people just think that it isn't as flushed out as for example Mistborn's, but when you take a closer look, you start seeing the problems Mistborn Era 2 proposed with the mixing of the 16x16 metals, as well as the mixing of the God Metals (which every God has *according to the words of Brandon* ), which would make 16x16x16 new magic powers that Brandon has still not talked about. Anyways, hope my mini-rant made sense, great video, earned a new sub!

I’ve never read this author before, having hid in my old school cave until now. I think I will start with Mistborn or Oathbreaker. Should I hold off on Stormlight Chronicles until most of them are out so I don’t forget the characters and have to reread the previous books every couple years when a new one comes out? I hear it is projected to be 10 books.

" Something specific about mistborn ... it's pretty clear, the rules and limitations ". And then Feruchemy comes in. And then Hemallurgy, and then atium and holy shit then you go to a fanpage and see comments like "what if the Parshendi in the stormlight archive developed a form based off of the Hemallurgy in mistborn". Yeah.

Just because the novellas are good doesn’t mean they have to be read to enjoy the full length novels. In my opinion at least! After reading Edgedancer, which does definitely play a role in Oathbringer, I found I could’ve not read it and still enjoyed Oathbringer. For people who maybe don’t have as much time to read as you and me, I don’t think they should be told they have to read all the short stories too.

@thesonofsuns7479
@thesonofsuns7479 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Warbreaker and The Stormlight Archive have the strongest connection in the entire Cosmere so far. By the time you reach the 3rd book (Oathbringer) it will basically be a full on crossover. There are many references to it in Words of Radiance though. Remember to read Edgedancer after WoR too! Like she said in the video, you don't HAVE to read it, but it adds a lot to the story if you have.
