Publishers. Publishers are the reason certain books come out and they all seem the same. Romantacy was a big one for a while. I love fantasy (especially LOTR) but it’s either LOTR inspired or romantacy that’s about all you see still. Part of why I enjoy Brandon Sanderson’s work. He’s admitted his inspiration was some of the big fantasy novels but he still kept his story his

I love this book sooo much, it’s my top favorite. Was obsessed with the main character and loved the side characters, loved the school setting so much. Familiarity was comforting and fun for me, not bad. The plot was super interesting and I didn’t feel the need to explore Will deeper just yet.

Oh I agree 🙌 Especially about e2l trope (it's so nice trope and they destroyed it) and mostly "all 🌶️ no ❤" and this toxic relationships 😢

"Blood Over Bright Haven" was brilliant. My most anticipated release of October is "Blood of the Old Kings" by Sung - Il Kim, translated by the amazing Anton Hur.

Oh yeah, I friggin hate how every book nowadays is a 1# bestseller. It means nothing anymore.

The only reason i am in a reading slump is because i can't afford to buy books every month. And there is no library to try in my city. And i don't know anyone who can lend me some. Because of which i can't read a book for months, then get confused on what to buy with this limited amount, and then over research and ruin some stories for me for a while until i can forget they exist.

Have you read "Where the Dark Stands Still" by A.B.Poranek? Check it out if not, adored it! Inheritance of Scars sounds like a similar vibe, so definitely checking it out!!

Reign & Ruin I'm so excited to read when I catch up on the next few books just because of your review. Definitely one of those fantasy readers you mentioned who isn't opposed to romantic fantasy but I've bounced off of romantasy books pretty hard because I want my fantasy to be fleshed out too.

i just wish barnes and nobles would add a fantasy romance section to the romance section already. the fantasy section is too massive and its hard to find the fantasy romance in a sea of abercrombie and sanderson. fantasy romance will always belong to romance in my opinion, it has to follow the same main rule as romance: there must be a hea or hfn.

I'm nearly finished with the ARC for The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door and I'm loving it so far! I have also heard that Heir kinda requires an understanding/spoils some of the ending of Tahir's An Ember in the Ashes series. So I'm putting that one off until I can do a reread.

I got Heir as an arc via-NetGalley about a month ago. It did not go where I was expecting it to, and I am really excited to read the sequel. Also, it's going to be 2 books, which makes me all the more interested in how things all comes together.

I'm curious what types of books she is referring to-are these books that males read? I have read > 100 fantasy / sci fi books and I don't recognize 90% of these tropes. I'm 34-and albeit I only read fantasy in HS and College, it's not like it was that long ago. Has it really progressed (or regressed) so much in the last few years? I completed a manuscript for a fantasy book recently and it doesn't have any of these.

I am looking forward to reading The Fury of the Gods. It has been a marvellous series with both the first and the second book having so much new to offer while putting pieces together for the story to conclude in the third. The other fantasy book I am looking very much forward to reading is Titanchild! It is coming out next month. Again, thanks Elliot for introducing both Jen Williams and John Gwynne to me! ❤

So this is an amazing list. I can't wait for October. :) I'm putting Heir and The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door both on my TBR. Unfortunately, though it sounds amazing, I can't find an ebook version of Inheritance of Scars so it'll have to wait. Hopefully, they'll release one eventually. And of course, I'm looking forward to The Fury of the Gods, too. :)
