How lucky are we to be in a time where we can fly aircraft of this level of depth and immersion at home - Fenix is among the best of all time. Thanks for the walkthrough, great information as always!

You're correct that sharklets and other winglets have the biggest effect on longer flights. One might wonder, why don't the savings from shorter flights add up to the same thing? The answer is that fuel savings compound. The more fuel you save, the less you have to bring, and the lighter airplane then burns even less fuel. Therefore, the longer the flight, the more the effect of winglets will be felt. This is why some airlines will pay whatever it takes to equip the most advanced winglet on every plane in the fleet, while others will have a mixed fleet or not bother at all. Alaska Airlines is still in the process of eliminating the last of their 737-900s, most of which don't have any winglets at all.

There are some American Airlines A319s with sharklets in the US. Fenix said “The “sort of” is something I’ll address up front - the A319 Sharklet is proving quite a challenge to get data on given only a handful exist. It won’t make this upcoming release, but we’ll continue working at it.”
@aerialbugsmasher27 күн бұрын
I appreciate their penchant for accuracy but maybe releasing a "dummy" version that doesn't affect the performance and is purely for aesthetics would be a decent compromise while they figure it out.

You're still the master of making even the most niche aviation topics fascinating. Glad you like the resurrected original G-SIMX look for the Fenix. Lots of nostalgia for those covid streams while making it.

Many thanks Cpt. Although we now have a number of surpurb airliners in the sim, I still usually find myself back in the Fenix when the novelty of a new addon wears off:-) In fact as I type this I'm inbound to Gatwick from Nice in the BAW 320SL IAE lol

I heard in early versions of the sharklets, the strobe lights were actually visible from the cabin and were quite obnoxious to passengers, hence the addition of the black material on the cabin-facing side of the strobe light casing.

Now we have this, other than the engines and interior cabin trim/lighting, what other differences are there between these and the Neos? I'm hoping Fenix will do the Neos next, so we can have the full family (minus the A318, which I'm not that bothered about).

Could it be that the slight slope to the outward facing side is to force air coming from under the wing to flow towards the back of the aircraft instead of towards the front?

My problem with this release is the wingflex seems way overexaggerated, especially the wing tip version. At times it looks like they flap like a bird!

Avianca has some A319s with sharklets
@rezaomar339728 күн бұрын
so i have a question, if the 380 was quite a new plane at the time, why was that created with wing tip fence instead of sharklets? would they efficiency not be the same on a bigger jet such as the 380?
@Pilot-202028 күн бұрын
They planned to have sharklets installet on the -NEO version
@rezaomar339728 күн бұрын
@ ah I see
@isacjohnson889128 күн бұрын
the a380 was first introduced in 2007, sharklets only came later in 2012, probably why 380 released with the fences
@DaWolf80527 күн бұрын
The size of blended winglet necessary to achieve the same effect would be absolutely colossal on the A380, and so would be very expensive to manufacture. Boeing trialed something similar on the 747 in the early 2000s, but ended up sticking with the shorter, canted winglets of the 747-400 and using raked wingtips for the 747-8. The A380 already is very wide, so couldn't afford any extra wingspan to add those styles of winglet. The wingtip fence was the most they could fit at a reasonable cost.

Unless it is a setting or I am doing something wrong, but the only thing I dislike about the fenix is the nose gear how it does not steer left or right. Like no actual display of the tires steering at all but the plane does still turn left or right. My pmdg, tfdi md-11 and fbw airplanes steer just fine. Wish they would fix that
@RideWithMe8028 күн бұрын
In the sim with unlimited fuel, sharklet doesn't really matter that much. I think visually it matters in msfs. Unless the wing tip vortex is actually making physical impact to other planes in the sim.
