The Bluespotted Angelfish is a medium large marine angelfish well suited to reef tanks. It grows to about 8" - 20 cm - so it's not suited to nano reefs, or even small reefs for that matter. I think it'd do well in tanks at least 150 gallons or so, where it will be generally non-aggressive towards it's tank mates.
The Bluespotted Angelfish will likely torment fish added to your aquarium after it, so ideally it could be amongst the last of your fish. Mine holds it's own against my Achilles Tang, and together they rule the tank. Though I would say the fish is non-aggressive, these fish do appear to be territorial and so keep that in mind.
In my reef tank, my angelfish eat nori, as well as a variety of frozen foods and high quality pellets. I've not found the Bluespotted Angelfish to be picky at all, and I'm often left wondering how it avoids "ice cream headaches" given how quickly it devours food sometimes. This fish can also nibble on coral, mine particularly enjoyed a Green Acropora that I had in my reef tank before my crash. It has left LPS and Zoanthids alone though I bet some individuals may sample things. My angelfish never did any lasting harm to my coral, though I often saw nibbled tips on it.

What a gorgeous fish! I really wanted a pair of gold flake angels for the 325g display (60x60x21”) but in researching them I’ve learned it’s a crap shoot as to how aggressive they get. Your Blue spot looks amazing, and just might be the apex angel fish I’m looking for. Thanks for this video! 😍

It did! At least now I can do an aquascaping video I was thinking about but never did because I couldn't move rocks around! The fish are all doing well thankfully.

I didn't notice a corroding pump in my sump. Copper killed most of my coral.

There is a chance that the Bluespotted Angel might be a hybrid itself! The clade of the genus Chaetodontoplus, especially the “Melanosoma” complex, has debatable and not entirely clear boundaries when it comes to speciation. Add the genetics of the Blueline Angel (Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis), an amazing fish in its own right, and we get the possibility of many hybrids as a result of mixed pairs spawning as well as back-crossing. The “Maze Angel” in my view isn’t a distinct species but it’s rather a series of color forms involving the Blueline and its relatives in the “Velvet angels.”

Yea! It will be very interesting to see how the taxonomy ends up. With what we can do with DNA these days, there have been so many corrections to what we know of as species.

I think last time I measured them it was around 7 or 8 inches. I believe it’s nearly if not full grown now. It’s a big chunky fish, with quite the personality. It comes to the glass when we’re looking into the tank, and you can almost see it looking back at you. Very much an awesome and underrated fish for large tanks!!
