My friends Dad bought a Meyers 200A model in about 1970. He upgraded the engine shortly after and made it comparable to the D model. I was lucky enough to get to fly in it all over the midwest and one memorable trip from Missouri to Puerto Rico and back. It is undoubtably the finest single engine aircraft of its era.

My neighbor growing up had one and flew it from a 1600 ft grass strip in northeastern Maryland. I don’t know the Vne but his hot low passes over our house were legendary. Still a gorgeous plane to this day.

I had a friend who owned a Meyers 200D. Fastest single I've ever flown. What an impressive airplane. VERY torque-y on takeoff. You didn't dare firewall the throttle during takeoff. You'd advance the throttle very slowly, and usually by the time you were full throttle, it was time to rotate. I was surprised that there was no mention of the fact that there is a company in Oklahoma getting ready to produce the Meyers again. I saw them and spoke with them at Sun-N-Fun earlier this year. It will have the IO-550, all glass instrument panel, and everything else will be exactly as the original Meyers - except it will have a carbon fiber cowl.
@TakingOff2 жыл бұрын
So I looked into that, because I had not heard about another company, getting ready to make the plane again. As I understand it, they are still trying to raise money, but it looks like they’re doing it all right. I hope they can succeed.
@heathjarvis23622 жыл бұрын
@@TakingOff That's correct. They are currently trying to obtain 50 deposits of $1,000. I find it interesting that they want 50 deposits, because 50 airplanes is about 40% of the total number of Meyers 200's ever made! They said it would cost around $600,000 - which if they can do this at that price, they will be VERY competitive with airplanes of similar performance. A brand new Cirrus SR22 is about $200,000 more expensive, and if you ask me, only about 20% as cool.

I used to work at KADG Lenawee CO. Airport when I was in High school. would go to Meyers Divers airport in Tecumseh MI. There was always a Meyers there getting worked on and at the time a OTW meyers being built in 2012-2013. also had a lot of the original tooling there. was amazing at the time looking back now. they had a 400 Turbo Interceptor fuselage there and a lot of Meyers parts and components there. Al Meyers son was running it at the time.

My Dad owned a 200 in the late 60's. It was a nice plane. Don't know if its true or not, but he told me that the "200" was named for its speed. I remember that it was fairly noisy compared to a Bonanza and had quite a lot of torque effect on takeoff, but it was very fast for the time. My father was one of those pilots who always wanted to "go faster" and sold the Meyers and bought an Aerostar. He owned a couple dozen aircraft all said, and the Meyers was one he missed after letting it go.

At 03:22, wow!, such a remarkably beautiful set of wings!! Squint 'just' a little, and in the right way, the wing becomes a canard for the XB-70 Valkyrie, or it could even pass for a Burt Rutan design. Someone with musical talent should rewrite the lyrics to the "Oscar Meyer Weiner" jingle, a great airframe like the Meyers, deserves to be more easily remembered/referenced.
@heathjarvis23622 жыл бұрын
The Meyers has a short wing span, but a long wing cord. The short wing span of only 30 feet helped in its speed.

When I decided to buy my own plane I narrowed my choice to either Meyers 200 or Navion. I bought a Navion because the Meyers 200s that were available were out of my price range. The Meyers 200 is faster but also more slick & slippery in flight. To me, the Navion flies like a Cessna 182, and the Meyers feels more like a Comanche.
