Following up on the Pre-War SJ-200 video we recently posted, here's an informative video from our archives that was shot in the spring of 2020. Mark takes us through the construction details of the Post-War version of the J-200, using a 1951 Gibson J-200 for the demonstration.

It occurs to me the purpose of the mustache bridge design is to have part of the bridge overlap the crossbraces. Seems like a clever-boots idea of the day.

That's very much the purpose of all bridge wings. The X and the fingerbraces support the wings and prevent them from torquing forward and causing sinkage in front of the bridge.

My favorite J-200 strummer is Emmylou Harris and my favorite fingerpicker is the Reverend Gary Davis. I love your videos and that you seem to be a Gibson fan. I love how quirky Gibsons are and own a 2006 J-50 and a 2007 J-185TV in natural as well. My 185 is really starting to be a stellar instrument. Anything you want to put up about J-185s would be appreciated as I know a lot of great ones have gone through Folkway over the years. Thanks for taking the time to share these guitars that you get to see and work on.

Those older J200's, with the single X bracing, really sounds great. They are the only ones that I actually like the sound. And this is purely a personal thing as everyone has their own tastes. We recently purchased an "Inspired By Gibson" Epiphone J200, which is all solid wood with highly figured, solid, flamed maple back and sides, and it too has a single X bracing pattern. And wow does that guitar sound nice. Awesome video...

@@richsackett3423 That could be. I never thought about that. I'll be doing a 2 year update video on my "Inspired by Gibson" Epiphone J200 soon. While not a Gibson, it's an awesome guitar for those of us that can't afford the real deal. Some day though... 😂

@@HayesTech My first acoustic was an Epiphone J-200 I bought at a pawn shop in 2007. Amazing value-for-money. Still have the case I bought for it.

@@richsackett3423 Have you tried any of the "Inspired by Gibson" J200s ? They are all solid wood, no plywood or laminate parts. The one we have had some of the most beautiful maple ice seen...

@@HayesTech No, but I'm minutes from going on StewMac to get a acoustic guitar kit. I've been done with my 70s Alvarez for a while and it came up the other day. Today, apparently.
