Do these have the same personality as "fat" puffers. I will be setting up a 150 bow front and always wanted a puffer, but I read the "fat" puffers like stars and stripes and pork's are prone to ich and prone to chomping on other fish, and true dog face puffers are ich magnets. I was successful treating my freshwater that broke out with ich and internal parasites, but I want to avoid dealing with it if possible. I'm planning on having a blue Jaw Trigger, fox face rabbit fish, Zebra eel, Coral beauty dwarf angel and some green Chromis along with some sort of puffer. This will be my first salt aquarium and I want robust fish that are on the peaceful side of semi-aggressive. Any advice? I want a successful tank, and am a stickler when it comes to water quality (I check water quality 4 times weekly and change 20-35% of the water out along with gravel vacuum at the same time) Any advice is appreciated!

Wyvern Your care for your tanks is impressive. You sound like me when keeping a tank perfectly clean. I’ve taken care of these smaller puffers like the saddle and blue spots for years and it is very rare that they get ich. One of the main things I would do to avoid it, is check with your LFS or online store to ask if they have copper in their tanks because that will take care of any ich that would be on the puffer. If not, you might want to check into giving it a bath or having a quarantine tank. The most common way people get ich in their tank, is because the place they bought it from did not make sure the fish was free of any infections. Hope this helps 😁

@@BrockLeonard cool, do the sharp nose puffers have the same personable and inquisitive nature that the "fat" puffers do? It would be nice if they were, less bio-load and risk to other fish.

Hey Brock I just got a baby saddled puffer and while I have plenty of tiny snails in the tank for her I’ve not seen her eat much yet and I’m worried she isn’t liking the mysis, I’ve also put in clams, squid, cut up shrimp, krill, and I have her in with a sailfin, naso tang, clowns, lawnmower blenny (who she loves to hang with) diamond watchman goby (another of her best buddies) a chromis, and a baby so lime wrasse. They’re in a 300 gallon tank so I may be missing her feed but is there anything I can do to ensure she has absolutely everything she needs? She is so sweet and little and I adore her and just want her to live her best life

You would be surprised, a lot of the times they will go on the hunt at night once the lights have turned off. You're feeding all the right things, I would just be patient and stay consistent with the fish, the little puffer will come around.

I very interested in keeping one of these guys. I have a 36 gallon bow front that I'm turning into a saltwater, other fish I hope to get are clowns and a shrimp. I am also doing live rock with some soft corals. Should the saddle puffer be okay in there? I also heard they are Poisonous and I'm I'm worred something with go wrong like wiping out the life in my tank or possibly taking mine??? I was really hoping to get one of these but after hearing they are poisonous it changed my mine. Should I get one, are they really that bad?
@BrockLeonard4 жыл бұрын
Pets R4ever He would be happy in that tank. I have seen them nip corals and chase shrimp when they are really hungry so keep em well fed. For being poisonous, it’s enough to kill your other fish, but not you. If he was to die, you would need to take him out very soon. Decaying in the tank is when things can go bad.

@malloryfraney16833 жыл бұрын
Any puffer will eat and nip at corals. We took a risk with our puffer and so far she’s not touched our corals. But using a net isn’t ideal because it stresses the puffers out and they release their toxins, also it’s sometimes hard for them to deflate. Best way is with a jar.
