That's right! Idiots in show lines have destroyed the breed... and they didn't do it only with german shepherd, they're doing it to all the breeds

True, BRT is still a good choice tho. Good lines out there, and unlikely to change real soon.

I have one, she works well. In addition, the dog is hardly a bust and is more genetically pure than the GS. Red Star Kennels went broke, like every other Soviet institution, and private people did a stellar job keeping the dog up to par. There are plenty of vids on the dogs working, but not nearly as common as your fav GS within all the genetic & show issues. The BRT didn't exist until 1955 or thereabouts. Far better dog, does not shed a lot. easily trained, perfect teeth, will hold a bite, will work just as well as a GS when trained. There aren't enough out there to say "they don't work well", sample size is small. I have a dog from Canada, amazing gal.

Seriously, I like mine, and she's naturally protective, and easy to train, which is really nice. I'll keep feeding her :) I think the Russians did a good job with the dogs, even if they don't use them now. My dog is a pet first (5 months old) and protection second, not like I'm a rockstar or anything. I don't know if I'll start working the dog, my local club is well thought of, but 18MOS is the minimum, not a priority for me right now. I also like the Giant Schnauzer, but I'm glad I went with the BRT.

She's one of the strongest nerved, drive and loyal dogs I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Aside from the apbt I will rock the working GSD till the death of me. Thank God for channels like this! The show line is horrendous, the one who won crufts hips were basically touching the floor. The Czech Working Line is awesome, straight backs, stocky, muscular, but they are hard work and need a ton of exercise but I love my Luka to bits. If you want a German Shepherd get a working line they are much healthier.

my question to the AKC is, what is the point of having a "breed" if he can't do what he was "bred" to do?? If we want a dog that can't perform any specific task special to his breed, we could just get a mixed dog from the shelter, the reason breeds exist is because each one has a speciality, rottweilers guarding, huskies sled pulling, labradors hunting waterfowl, but a show german shepherd?? what strength does he have? he can't have any when he no longer can perform the same tasks as his ancestors, he can be trained to do some things, but not much comes natural to him anymore, like strong nerves and a natural will to protect, what show dog gsd has strong nerves? none. and the ones that so called "protect" are usuaully biting people out of fear, not a protective nature

This guy gives the best names to his dogs. I’ve grown up with German Shepards my whole life, all my aunts and uncles have had them, my grandparents on my mom side had them and my dad’s father bred them and trained them for his security business. I can remember him going outside and giving each of them a steak when they completed all their agility and protection training. I’m on my third German Shepard now, Tsar, and he’s just a wonderful boy. He’s 10 now and winding down, he likes to sit with me and huff and make sweet old man sounds. I’m gonna be heart broken when he’s gone. GSD’s are the best, and I’ll never not have one. Can’t imagine a better addition to a family than a lovely, intelligent, and protective German Shepard.

@farnorthweaver7793
@farnorthweaver7793 6 жыл бұрын
beenbeen, Agreed! We're looking between two breeders right now. What the guy in the video is showing, Is NOT A GS-WORKING DOG. Working dogs have *straight backs* . None of these sloping Back/Spine Mutations are Standard Working Shepherds, which is the foundation of the Breed. Mostly, we use them for Working Farm Dogs. They are BIG Dogs, with very large heads, and bodies, of which the sloped backs cannot compare. In Intelligence and Health, there is no comparison to the mutation that some seem to prefer.
@WaitWhat99
@WaitWhat99 6 жыл бұрын
Julio Reyes yup, show line dogs are just mutations of a healthy normal dog. They are so bloody ugly, problem is people that breed these things for shows looks are just so ignorant of how bad they look.

My pup is working line. Beautiful straight back, small ears and athletic. I’ve had dobermans, a dogo argentino, a jack russell terrier and mutts before. They were all great dogs but none compare to my current GSD. She is the smartest, most obedient and most loyal dog I’ve ever had. She never chewed anything, either. So, for me, this has been the easiest dog to handle.

I admire your dedication to the GSD as he was intended to be. Owners of any individual dog need to be able to judge temperment and try, as best possible, to find a good match for themselves. We have a GSD rescue who is a fantastic companion dog. I saw Tango at an adoption event, barking and lunging at every dog that passed, and cringing when people passed too close by. When I told my wife that this was the perfect dog for us, she thought I was crazy. It took two years, and a few nasty vet bills to get her healthy, socialized, and properly obedience trained. She was trained in a soft , calm but extremely consistent manner. Because she was abused and neglected, she needed to find humans she could trust and respect. Through the whole process of regaining her confidence, she remained extremely well mannered, and dedicated to pleasing us. Is she breed standard for a working dog? Not even close. She is completely loved and cherished for the calm affectionate pet that she is. Popularity breeds greed and greed breeds bad canines. American GSDs are a prime example of trying to make pets and/or show dogs from a working breed. By and large, they have lost their working charicteristics and health as well. I knew what Tango was and what she wasn't. Saying she is a GSD is...not very accurate. For people who know how to train and handle a high drive working dog, I'd say your dogs are exactly what they are looking for.

We waited 3 years for our straight back GS. We were prepared to wait as long as it took to find the right breeding, there’s so many badly bred GS here in Australia, especially with the showline, some look like they’re constantly urinating as they walk along, or walking on their hocks as you described, it’s heartbreaking. We’re currently waiting to bring our new working line home soon to add to our family.

Our little runty black German Shepherd Mousey is the most intelligent dog I’ve ever seen or been around. She knows over a dozen commands weather spoken or from hand signals. She will “herd” all 3 of our Great Danes inside when they don’t wanna come; and all with a ChuckIt Ultra Ball in her mouth. She’s super small at 50 pounds, we call her our Shetland Shepherd, or Mini, Mighty, or Atomic Mouse…she just wants to please you but has a very high drive. My parents have her sister (littermate) Lilly and shes 90 pounds of muscle. Mousey runs circles around her and is 3x’s more intelligent.

I just watched the documentary from Taylor… I find your dog breeding beautiful! They are perfect in form, they are evidently bred with a beautiful temperament, I have read some of the comments throughout the year and I find people just choose to pick at something but they do not understand. I own a gorgeous black Shepherd. She is brilliant! When I talk to her, she looks at me and if she had words she would say would you like me to type that up and send it off for you please… LOL She is trained for protection, of course obedience and temperament. She is awesome and I see your dogs similar to her. With her when I bought her I owned a rogue dog, and One day while they were playing, I did not realize, Although, I always had my eyes on them, she swallowed a knit glove. It ended up blocking her bowel ending her in ICU for five days after surgery. I moved and then moved back to my home. As a result, I was unable to give her my full attention., “My time in maintaining her training“. I should also mention I fractured three of my ribs due to not paying attention to her high prey drive and cats. My recovery took a while, and again my lack of management with her. When settled back at home, I was able to reestablish what she already knew. She didn’t miss a beat. When I bought her, she was already trained! She is gorgeous and I would never want another breed other than the German Shepherd. The breeders trained her from a puppy… She was to be used as a breeder however after a visit from the vet they noted she had some dysplasia in one elbow. That changed her role in life as they chose not to breed her, which I find honorable. And I was the lucky one, who bought her. She is now four years old. I live alone in the country, with my shepherd… Whose name by the way is karma, her registered name is Czimera. I do not regret for one second the cost of her. She’s a beauty. I love what you talk about when you talk about the shepherd. I see some of yours are black! I think my Black Beauty Is amazing. However, I absolutely love the different colours and would have any colour at all. What I want in my dog is to bring myself up to speed because she knows her training, I have been lazy one. Thank you for all of your information. I would love to hear from you if you had any suggestions as to what to do with her next. As well your location

West German show line dog is a complete all round dog in my opinion. Best combination of beauty, strength, and performance. Amazing temperament, calm in the house but can turn the switch when needed. With strong nerves, big heads and males weighing 90-100 lbs, they have a lot of power for work. Most of them have good hips/elbows and overall health. I own son of current top dog in Germany VA1 Willy Vom Kuckucksland. Puppies from any of the VA & V rated dogs in German sieger are excellent.

Bri Rayachoti, Just want to inform you that I had 6 GSD and all were American show line. All were smart, strong, protective, and good natured as well as healthy. i had 1 that had the slope back and he was healthy and a great dog as well. My most recent is all black, long haired, smart, protective and weighs 125 pounds and is fast. he would put this guys dogs to shame as far as looks goes. Anybody who constantly trains their dogs all the time, their dogs are going to obey like the dogs in this video. Not everybody needs a working line GSD because most people have the dog as a family pet and for family protection. It's not like the dog is going to work everyday as a police dog. Many people on this post are believing if you get a GSD only get a working line. NOTHING IS FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. I only buy GSD and have never had a problem.

Can't tell you how long we spent looking for a reputable breeder. I got so many "No, trust me the hips are good" when we asked for vet records and xrays. When I found the right breeder they show me all of their dogs, go over all food they feed them, showed me their IPO titles, even showed me the goats that they milk to add to the puppy food. Their GSD's were perfectly calm on their farm with all poultry completely free ranging and the dogs just mingled and they had lost no poultry to predators living in a high predator area. We have a small farm and needed the temperament to herd but not attack our animals. We ended up with a beautiful girl who is 7 mo currently. We had her evaluated by a GSD professional who normally breeds for military and PD but he took me and her on as a training client. What the truth is was I had a phenomenal dog and I needed to step my game up to be a better handler.

Everyone’s hating on showlines but have no idea what a stack is and how different stacks and movement can make a “slope back” GSD look like a “straight back” also there’s no such thing as a slope back. Either the dogs back is roached or dipped inward due to bad breeding generally. Show lines are just as good as working lines from a reputable breeder people. Show lines are generally more calm and more of a house pet, working lines are obviously for working and to have a job. I’m actually considering a show line over a working line due to my house size, yard ect. Don’t get a working line dog you can’t handle because someone told you bs because they are biased against show lines.

Emma, You are correct Emma. I had 6 American show line GSD and all were straight back except for 1. The 1 that had the slope was just as good and healthy as the rest of them and all were smart, strong, protective brave dogs. You do not have to get a working line GSD to have a great dog. Working line GSD want to work all the time. Many family GSD are not police dogs that have to go to work everyday. Show lines are great dogs too. The one I have now is all black, longhaired, strong, smart very good natured with everybody and he is huge. He weighs 125 pounds and what a handsome dog. The best looking GSD I ever owned. The dogs in this video look like poodles compared to my Dakota. SHOW LINE A+

My favourite breed is a German Shepherd. May it be a showline or a working line but I understand that the working line has better drives which is very important to know. But it does depend on the goal. I love all the GSD's in the video especially Gordon Vom Fuchsgraben, Hammer Von TaylorHof & Marek Von Der Nacht.(Hammer is similar in looks to my GSD his name is Simson and I consider his as my cousin brother, he is 4 is four years old currently and really looks like Hammer.). I thank Mr Zeke(or uncle, for I'm just 14)Dickinson and Kris Taylor for the knowledge of the breed. I am Somesh from India.

There are American showlines and West German showlines. West German showlines can still be working dogs. I have a high drive West German that competes in schutzhund and does just as good as the working lines. My dog doesn't have a sloped back and his hocks don't touch the ground. You can't judge showlines just because of some bad breeders, there are good show line breeders out there, they are just hard to find. My dog is obsessed with working and playing! He would do anything for his ball. Don't judge all showlines unless you really know the breed in WHOLE and have worked around showlines and working lines.

Lucian9666 There is no Agility involved. You start them very young with drive. Meaning playing tug which is the start of Bite Work. You can even teach them on a Sleeve. You want to see how much of a drive they have. And yes Obedience training. They also need to be trained to Track as that is part of SchH. To compete your dog MUST pass the BH. If not they can't continue.

My mother owned before German shepherds, and also we held other breeds. At the same time at us there lived 4 German shepherds, 2 of them were working type and 2 Germany (show), 1 Caucasian sheep-dog and 1 stafarsher. On my observations of a sheep-dog of working type there were cleverer, strong, a lowered feeling of pain, more massivna. The head of working sheep-dogs are huge, teeth larger than at sheep-dogs of a show type. Also I have noticed that working type more brave, the stafarsher beat with 2 shows of sheep-dogs without problems, but the working ocharka didn't leave any chance to a stafarsher, it is just the car for murder.

The sloping back is suppose to give the dog a better stack, but they look terrible when trotting. There is no working line or show line as the breeder would have to be a genius to predict which puppy is going to be smart or look beautiful. The DDR on the other hand is known to be a working dog as this strain of GSD is basically untouched and used as guard dogs 🐕 my site on FB is called My name is Max

Good video. But I see a lot off people on here saying to do one on bully breeds, mastiffs and terriers but the truth is that most of those breeds aren't real working dogs so there's not much to say about them theyre mainly companions, or there only good for one job like as a guard dog, hunting and pulling. Their not breeds that get titled on the regular. There's no real breeding conditioning or standards. The reason the gsd is the rated as the best working dog in the world goes back to its origins and how it was developed. Schutzhund at first and now called IPO, the trials were created for the German shepherd breed in order to shape and mold the best possible working dog. If they pass all schutzhund trails (obedience, tracking, protection) then the dogs were eligible for breeding. This took decades of selective breeding. If the dogs get titled they get bred knowing all of the dogs off spring are most likely going to have the same capabilities and attributes of their parents. Solid temperaments, intelligent, obedient, with good work drives but at the same time great with kids and fearless when it comes down to protecting loved ones. Just a hand full of dog breeds follow these breeding work standards. German shepherd were the first breed and then dobie, rottie's, Beaucerons, giant schnauzers and the other shepherd breeds like mals and Dutch herders followed. But comparing those dogs with bully breeds, terriers and most mastiff isn't really something you do. They're in different classes all together.

Terriers are real working dogs. LOL. just because everyone doesn't work them doesn't mean there isn't a lot to say about them. Have you ever met a Patterdale?
@danielaltrui9015
@danielaltrui9015 8 жыл бұрын
Yes I have. I'm very familiar with them. And that's not what I was talking about. Patterdale's are working dogs but they're a one job dog. Small game hunting isn't what I'm talking about, if you read what I was wrote you should have understood that I was talking about dogs that have multiple job purposes(versatility) So when I say there's not much to say about the other breeds it was bc they don't get titled(IPO) as a standard breeding practice for work capabilities. But I guess you didn't comprehend anything I wrote.

ha the old fad dog trick eyyyy. nah i get you, i will say i come from where the corso originated nd they are vastly different to the extra large pits in the US. the underbite is the biggest difference, alot of the 'rustic' corsos i see here in southern italy simply dont have the 'pug face' alot of corsos have. scissorbite is prefered. too many people get dogs like presas and corsos as a house pet dog without understanding these dogs are primarily working breeds, corsos are meant to be out on the farm running around not being super aggressive but not taking shit from people either. idk man, i think people have gone too far into designer dogs and lost what dogs were meant to be for, just my 2 cents

I can not help but LOATHE the "show line" gsd mainly because of the ridiculous "sloped back" bs ...WHY that stays part of the breed standard is beyond me! It makes no sense at all! Reminds me of the other stupid things people do in the name of "looks" like certain asian culture that forces a woman's feet to be tiny, or horses forced to perform painful un natural gaits, or the STUPID idiots (IMHO) that destroy the handling and safety of motor vehicles to make them supposedly LOOK cool...like lowering a car to the extent of having no suspension or ground clearance left! Or on a motorcycle putting "ape hanger" handlebars placing the riders hands and arms in a profoundly uncomfortable position for any length of ride...not to mention how much less control the rider has....how in the world people translate impractical, poorly formed animals or machines to being "cool" or beautiful I just will never ever understand...whatever form results in poor function IS intrinsically UGLY UGLY UGLY to me the moment I understand the deficiency result of the "form" In fact historically "ugly" becomes COOL and beautiful once people catch on to the desirability ...like take military jeep or humvee vehicles or formula 1 race cars ..none of these were designed for looks, they were designed for PERFORMANCE to the be the BEST at their particular job ...once seen in action, seen to be dominantly successful? They BECOME sought after and SO COOL! THAT is the case for the GSD dog also...a breed so successful for the WORK they were designed/bred for...naturally (I think) coming right back into the general form of the WOLF that is so intelligent and successful apex predator ...THOSE functions are what gives these canines their coolness, their beauty ....sticking to BEST of the breed's WORK performance WILL naturally produce the most beautiful COOL looking animals!....however trying to dictate "back slope" WITHOUT the PROOF in SUPERIOR function somehow? WHERE is the beauty in THAT??? Especially considering that the hips are involved and KNOWING that a dog's hips are of HUGE importance in performance and health longevity...of all the things NOT to screw with? Some moron clings to THAT as a "show breed" standard??? A "standard" that typically does NOT manifest in the champion working examples of the breed?? REALLY??? How does this not embarass folks to no end that are involved with the perpetuation of the gsd sloped back?????
