Two of my fave harp teachers in one go. Gotta be good. In terms of having that fat tone that yes we are obsessed with at the start, I felt I would never sound substantial. I'm not SBW2 but my tone has improved massively by following all the advice (Jon Gindick is also good for this), practicing and relaxing a bit. I would urge people to record themselves playing something that they get a groove with and enjoy - they might be surprised. We all sound different on play back and not only worse. Keep up the good stuff guys. Andy, Norfolk UK

Excellent advice Andy!

I listened to a student, like me, at a "sit in with the band for free" session. He played a big, hard, fat, dirty style that could sound good in places, but that isn't the type of harp I want to play myself. I play amplified and so did he but we are very different. So, not only tone as a topic, but when and how to know when to use that "gritty and dirty" sound that Liam Ward just mentioned.

Found the stuff around Context and Dynamics as they relate to tone, thought provoking - Thanks Would it be pedantic to mention timbre here?....... Yes, I thought so too.
