I love "Estate" the Bruno Martino master piece that many musicians love to perform. He was a multi-talented Italian composer, singer, and pianist. This is one of his more famous compositions by the late great CHET BAKER. "Estaté" was set to lyrics by a couple of people, and some of my favorite artists have an instrumental as well as vocal recording of this gorgeous song. "Estaté" means "summer" in Italian, just lovely! SHIRLEY HORN has a beautiful cover, the lyrics she sings: Estaté -- You bath me in the glow of your caresses You've turned my eager no to tender yeses You sweep away my sorrow with your sigh Estaté -- Oh how the golden sunlight bends the willow Your blossoms send the perfume to my pillow Oh who could know you half as well as I I always feel you near me In every song the morning breeze composes All the tender wonder of the roses Each time the setting sun shines on the sea And when you sleep beneath a snowy cover I'll keep you in my heart just like a lover And wait until you come again to me - Estaté

And they say he was nothing but a junkie zombie, merely a rambling skeleton, during the eighties. Others say he was a poor man's Miles Davis. This wonderful piece proves them totally wrong and shows that Chet Baker always had his very own voice, which he continued to develop until the end of his life. His playing, when he was inspired, was greater than excellent and no lesser than anyone's, including the greats.

Love Chet. Silly for people to feel they have to compare one player to another. Call me a heretic, but I never cared for Miles Davis' playing...just my personal my taste. Seems Miles found a way to stand out because he couldn't get close to people like Dizzy.

Never heard anyone describe Chet Baker as "nothing but a junkie zombie, merely a rambling skeleton, during the eighties". That's bizarre.
@Suggsonbass5 жыл бұрын
It's just ridiculous to compare Chet to Miles anyway. It's like comparing Coltrane to Getz or Oscar Peterson to Bill Evans. Folks who make those kinds of glib comparisons don't understand that when you get to that level of mastery, jazz isn't about technical prowess, or even about who is the most innovative....it's just very humbly about having your own voice. Chet had his in spades as did as Miles, and neither ever tried or even needed to try to speak like the other.

Chet Baker’s Live from the Moonlight is a mesmerizing testament to his unparalleled artistry, capturing the magic of a rare live performance that feels as if it’s unfolding in real-time. Recorded in an intimate jazz club setting, the album immerses the listener in Baker’s world, where every note and phrase resonates with emotion and authenticity. From the opening track, My Funny Valentine, Baker’s trumpet sings with a haunting vulnerability, weaving delicate melodies that feel deeply personal. His vocal delivery, soft and introspective, complements the instrumental brilliance, adding a layer of raw humanity to the performance. The rhythm section deserves equal praise, providing a supple and responsive foundation for Baker’s improvisations. Tracks like Autumn Leaves and Blue in Green showcase the synergy between Baker and his band, with each musician contributing to a fluid and organic soundscape. The interplay between Baker’s trumpet and the piano solos is particularly spellbinding, striking a perfect balance between technical mastery and heartfelt expression. What truly sets Live from the Moonlight apart is its atmosphere. The ambient sounds of the audience-hushed whispers, spontaneous applause, and the occasional clink of glasses-add a sense of immediacy, as if the listener is seated in the front row. The recording quality captures every nuance, from Baker’s subtle breath control to the warm resonance of his muted trumpet. This album is not just a live recording; it’s a moment frozen in time, a snapshot of a genius in his element. For both long-time fans and newcomers to Chet Baker’s music, Live from the Moonlight is an essential listen-a masterclass in jazz that feels intimate, timeless, and profoundly moving. www.candiano.com

In the hush of midnight's shadowed tune, Chet's trumpet weeps beneath the moon. Notes like teardrops softly fall, Echoes of a melancholy call. In smoky rooms where shadows dance, Chet's horn weaves a forlorn romance. A solitary sigh, a lonesome cry, As melodies of heartache amplify. His trumpet whispers tales untold, Of love that's young, and love grown old. Through muted brass, a mournful plea, A requiem for lost ecstasy. A lonely street, a dim-lit bar, Chet's music drifts like a fading star. In every chord, a soul laid bare, A sonnet of sorrow suspended in air. Each breath he takes, a heavy sigh, A wistful echo, a muted goodbye. Through amber notes, the pain unfolds, A symphony of sorrows, stories untold. The night embraces the mournful sound, As Chet's trumpet weeps, unbound. A ballad etched in shadows deep, In the music of Chet, the sadness seeps.

The song "Estate" was written by the composer Bruno Martino in 1960. While it has been recorded by Brazilians, it is an Italian song.

It doesn’t get any better. Chet was truly gifted and, like a previous commenter said, he played straight from the heart- even more amazing when you consider he was a drug addict most of his adult life. This is why I hate drugs .

When the words get in the way Of your melancholy days And the feeling that it's all just a dream. Wake me if you must These days simply dust passing through... Passing through the hands of.father time Summer without tou here Makes me want disappear as i cling to the scent of your wine.

My favorite is from "Chet Baker at Capolinea", a shorter version that I never tire of hearing. woody shaw does a great job with this one too.
