I've been going back and fourth trying to justify the expensive RBG but this test answered my questions. Thank you sir.

All American is hands down the better choice.

Problem i see with the aas is balancing. Seems like it would be very easy to be inconsistent with the amount of material taken off each side?

Not at all! I sold my rbg as the all American has so many pros and way cheaper

I bought one of these for use on the blades off of my 72" John Deere 997R. It worked fantastic!

I use wavy style mulch blades. RBG can't do them like the AA can.

The RGB put a different angle on the blade vs the 30 degrees with the All American. I would be curious as to the balance of the blade. I would be curtain the RGB removed way more metal then the All American, making the blade not very balanced.
@Taylexwow3 жыл бұрын
Gotta be honest I think that RGB was changing the angle which is why it was taking so long
@rickrossetti38573 жыл бұрын
I think if you measure the angles the rgb isn't the same angle as the all american. If the angles are the same it would have only taken 3 or 4 to remove the black on the rgb.

I counted 17 passes not 15 you got off count at pass 6

I just used my all American sharpener for the first time this week. It is GREAT. Love it and wish I invested earlier

It appears to me the All American is a better bang for your buck. With the cordless grinder, which has many uses, thus making the All American very portable and allowing it to be stored when not in use. The BIG and more expensive RBG obviously needs a permanent space and appears to be good for sharpening blades only. Thanks for the video, it’s definitely the All American for my buck.
@mikecooley33612 жыл бұрын
how well does it work on a well worn blade with rounded edges and nicks? that's what most people are going to be sharpening. just seems like that would be a better comparison.

What angle does the RBG sharpen at?

Supposed to be 30 but as you can tell it’s off a hair

Did the angle grinder leave the blade concave at all?
@vinceschannel89273 жыл бұрын
Holy cow. You’d think for as much as the RBG-712 is it would take 2 passes to get that blade sharp. But the All-American completely destroyed that thing. However the price point on both of those things is freakin crazy.
@allamerican78303 жыл бұрын
Yeah the all American cut it quicker but I wonder if it’s cutting at the same degree of the RBG712?

I’ve never tried the RBG-712 but I can attest that I love my all American sharpener. Wit a new flap disc it’s fast,straight and the edge is razor sharp. Ntm it’s adjustable for all kinds of blades.

I used an angle grinder for many years with many different types of heads. The thing I didn’t like most of all was the metal shavings all over my garage. I switched to a rbg 712, it’s a little slower but collects most of the shavings.

Awesome video. First side by side comparison I’ve seen. I’m trying to build a All American look a like due to funds right now but I sure do like that one. I like the end result. Blades will last longer by not grinding as much off

No, but you may save 5 HP in thick wet grass

This does not appear to be an apples-to-apples comparison. The RBG is OBVIOUSLY changing the angle of the edge, whereas the All American doesn't appear to be doing so. The All American seemed to already fit the angle... which could have resulted in fewer number of passes required. If what I'm thinking is correct, then a blade more factory-set for the the RBG would have taken more passes on the other. I just don't think "number of passes" means squat -- bottom line. I'd like to see whether there's some rounding to the All American's finished edge... where the flexible nature of a flap wheel contoured to "get the black off" whereas the rigid blade on the RBG didn't. With a really close look, does the surface look straight on the flap wheel's output? Or as I think I see in the video, is it arced to some extent and only devoid of black because it was sharpened with a flexible wheel? Good video.

I'm wondering if 30 degrees was the factory angle on the blade. RGB setting may be at 32 degrees while All American was set to 30 degrees, the correct angle.

Nice comparison! I don't own either, but both did a great job!
@mattsmith68282 жыл бұрын
Both sides look good, but... is it really even a competition at this point? 3 vs 15 passes, and both sides of the blades were sharp & looked good. Plus, if you're worried about taking too much metal off, there's a simple solution: 80 grit flap disk.

If you ran your fingers across the edge of one of the blades i sharpen you will be donating blood. 😀😀😀 I sharpen a lot of blades for family and friends and it seems like every time I sharpen some I can't get away without donating blood. 🙂🙂🙂 I keep a box of large band-aids in the shop and almost every one is used on cuts I got from blades.

I agree with all the other comments, the angle between the 2 was not the same. But, you missed a very important step, I see you also have the blade balancer mounted by the sharpener, you should have checked the balance before and after, as it looks like you removed a lot more with the 712.

the RBG-712 would have if you had tilted the bottom of the blade inward toward the grinding stone, the problem is that the guides aren't exactly at the right angle.
@grizzlystiks2 жыл бұрын
Counted 17 passes, angle grinder you only did 3.
@utuberatlanta Жыл бұрын
Angle grinder was 4 passes... None the less it did a much better job than the 712 with "17" passes. I really didn't like how on the 712 when he got to the end of the blade the blade dropped and was essentially rounding off the end of the blade. Nice video showing the comparison of the two though. My vote is the All American with the angle grinder ! Thanks for the video.
