@samtony29193 жыл бұрын
@@premrajpoot5820 I mean Ayuthayea. May be you confuse what I mean. There are many misconceptions regarding the early history of Ayuthhaya. The commonly believed theory is that Ayutthaya rose to power as a Thai kingdom, conquered Angkor Wat, captured thousands of Cambodians, and therefore received an influx of Cambodian culture, which cultural elements has continued to be in use to this day. I'm here to shed some light on the matter, and show that early Ayutthaya can be seen as part of 'Greater Angkor'. Cambodia in the 14th and 15th century There is a gap in Cambodian's history from 1327 up to 1431. The last inscription dates from 1327, which mentions the succession of the last king with the Varman-suffix: Jayavarman (IX) Paramesvera. Unlike his three predecessors, the last king was a devout Hindu, while the three former kings were Buddhists. After his reign, the construction of Sanskrit and Old Khmer inscriptions just stopped, and never returned to Cambodia ever again. The first inscription that does appear in Angkor in the 16th century, is written in Middle Khmer, a new form of Khmer that is immensely different from Old Khmer, containing titles that originated in Ayutthaya, with new titles that clearly never were used in Angkor before. The first reliable evidence of Cambodia in the 15th century comes from the Royal Chronicle of Ayutthaya, Leuang Prasoet (LP) version. It tells the story of how an Ayutthayan king (Khmer ethnicity) by the name 'bra rām cau' was exiled to Phnom Penh in 1431, when another Ayutthayan king (Khmer ethnicity) named 'paramarājādhirāj' conquered Angkor. He let his son 'bra nakhon in' to rule in Angkor. The son of bra rām cau, named Yat, married into a Pearic (ethnicity) tribe, and raised armies among the hill tribes of Cambodia, and succeeded to reconquer Angkor from the former Ayutthayan king's son. Predecessor state of Ayutthaya Before Ayutthaya was officially founded in 1351 as a hinterland power, there was a maritime (unidentified) power, a collection of ports, from which Ayutthaya arose. This polity was located in the lower Menam basin, and was named Syem by the Cambodians, and Hsien/Xian by the Chinese/Mongolians. It is evident from the Khmer titles of the rulers of Hsien, that they continued old Khmer traditions. Only from the 15th century up (but possibly already in the 14th century) do we see a gradual Thai influence from the north (Sukhotai), when Hsien became the name for Ayutthaya. The ruling families of Ayutthaya were Khmer until the 16th century. According to Zou Daguan, a Chinese official who wrote a detailed description of Angkor at the end of the 13th century, Hsien had laid the Cambodian land to waste after some devastating wars with Angkor. Peculiarly, there is no mention of this warfare in any sources outside of Cambodia. The most logical explanation is that the war between Hsien and Angkor was seen as an internal conflict. There was no new influx of Cambodian culture The commonly accepted theory is that Ayutthaya as a Thai state, conquered Angkor, and took off with thousands of Cambodian prisoners, which account for the Cambodian influence in Ayutthaya. This is not true. Based on the Old Khmer language used in current day Thailand from the 14th century up, it's evident that the language is a continuation of Angkorean language brought there already centuries before. Also, the titles used by the rulers in current day Thailand, show that they had their own distinguished traditions, which must have been developed locally, without the direct influence from Angkor in those times. There was certainly a cultural exchange between the two states, but the cultural influence was primarily accounted for from Ayutthaya to Angkor, not the other way around. This is shown by the titles used by the Cambodians, which clearly show that they were adopted from Ayutthaya. This is one hand not surprising, since the kings of Cambodia/Angkor in the 15th century were of Ayutthayan origin. On the other hand it is surprising, since it shows that Cambodians lost knowledge of old Angkorean traditions, and had to look eastward to incorporate new cultural elements that were lost. Conclusion Those elements of Thai culture which are generally considered to have originated in India, such as Buddhism, architecture, artistic designs, and even a significant portion of the Thai lexicon, did not enter Thailand directly from India. Rather, they were all second-hand transmissions, so to speak, having first passed through the Sri Lankans (including the Tamil), the Mon, or the Khmer. Even the concept of divine kingship (devaraja) and much of the special vocabulary associated with the royal court were, as M.R. Kukrit Pramoj, a noted intellectual and former Thai prime minister, said, “derived from Cambodia.” As Professor David Wyatt of Cornell University once noted, in fact, “Ayutthaya is the successor of Angkor.” Top ken svayThe Internet is my Only Friend Quote as guest Quote as member Post Thu Jan 14, 2016 1:30 pm My Khmer teacher whose family came for Longveik always told me that the invading Thai army stole all the Khmer laws. But he also believed that the Viets bought the awful gum trees and the prostitution and that the Khmer Rouge kept all the records but then the Viets threw them all in the river. He is probably not a good historical source. Well, I think this is due to nationalistic beliefs of the Khmer. The Khmers tend to think that much of their culture was taken after Ayutthaya rose to power. What's evident now, is that the culture of Ayutthaya was Khmer to begin with (after the expansion of the Angkorean empire into Mon Dvaravati). Only from the 14th century up there is gradual influence from the Thai North (Sukhotai), which ultimately displaced the Khmer language (Thai language in Ayutthaya was written in Old Khmer script until some time, until they adopted the northern Thai script, derived from Mon script), the Khmer ethnicity, and the Khmer identity. One can not speak of a "Thai" Ayutthaya, since the ruling families of Ayutthaya (and all 'kingdoms' under this polity. like Lavo for instance) were khmer until the 16th century. So Ayutthaya in it's beginning was just a split off of Angkor.
