I ve learned from my childhood that our Thai culture has been influenced by great civilization like India, and China, and many other countries through adoption and adaptation and become our unique culture. These performances really show how one same root of culture could have evolved into so many different patterns of acting. Being a *Sri Lankan* I think we need to take Ramayana a bit more seriously and incorporate it into our fine arts stream as it has the potential to further improve our existing bonds with these countries that performed so beautifully in this video. At least that is a positive way Sri Lankans can pay tribute to Ravana (if this island is his place of origin as interpreted in Valmiki's epic). Excellent initiative by the Thai Ministry of Culture 👏

The Khmer version of the Ramayana called Ramakien is a little different from Valmiki's original. There are many scenes featuring Ravana's niece, which is referred to as Suvarna Matsya(Golden Fish) in the Ramakien. This will seem foreign to Indians because these scenes aren't in any other versions.

By your logic..there was no such country as England...no such country as Cambodia...no country where provincial kingdoms existed should be called a country before colonization. The concept of India as a nation far predates the mughals. The mere absence of a central rule does not mean that a vast landmass where the majority of people have common ethnic roots cannot be deemed a country. Ask yourself the question that why would all the ancient and medieval empires refer to this land as india(or some form of the word sindhu) if there was no resemblance of a nation. The name bharat too became widely accepted in india. There are shlokes simple as vyasa vandana where tena twaya BHARAT taila kunde ...prajwalito gyanmaya pradipa is said.

As we can see, Vietnam is not here since Vietnam was influenced more by China rather India. That's why geographically speaking Vietnam is part of Southeast Asia but culturally they're East Asia. That's what makes us different from other Asians. Southeast Asians albeit, we sometimes look "Chinese" but culturally we are heavily influenced by India.

Beautiful, I loved it as an Indian, how it has adapted to every culture of our South-eastern neighbors, I just hope that the coming genz hold this tradition as a beautiful asset from their ancestors. BTW, Indonesian Javanese style is very beautiful, the Balinese one is very stylistic too. Also, the Sinhalese version could have been added( if they have any). Actually, the Valmiki Ramayan is the oldest and original one of India but there are many Ramayans unique to each part of India. For ex- Bilanka Ramayan of the late 14th century is the main version in Odisha province( Ancient Kalinga). Also, no offence, but all other versions except Filipino one was understandable, I couldn't get the Filipino one. I didn't know they had Ramayan as well, as their history started with the Spanish conquest, I believe? Myanmar was very beautiful too like a fairytale, it is rare that we get to see anything from this neighboring country of ours. Thai and Laos was quite similar and majestic, wonder why did they didn't include Khmer version as well?
