That last Shaun Murphy shot is completely insane. I do think it was intentional, if a bit speculative. He probably thought he might at least hit the red with that shot and if he was very lucky, even pot it and have position on the black, and if not, hopefully not leave the red to his opponent because he would have cleared it from the middle pocket. So not only incredible execution but also just a brilliant idea. IMO, he really should have won that tournament. He played much stronger than Milkins throughout who only barely scraped by in some of his games. And early on in the final, Milkins was really not bringing his best, but so wasn't Shaun for some reason. So at some point, Milkins gained some confidence and really played some of his best snooker in the final but still, Murphy in the same form as the rest of the tournament should really have beaten him. Not to mention that Milkins got some really lucky shots throughout, as mentioned in this video.

"I do think it was intentional, if a bit speculative" And I'm inclined to agree with you. He is shooting pretty good which I think gave up the confidence to give it a go. Amazing shot.
@JamesMc2051
@JamesMc2051 Жыл бұрын
Definitely intentional but one of those you don't get very often. Knuckles and white goes to baulk cushion. Right hand side gives it a chance. I've seen at at 8 ball on occasion (or similar ideas) but not snooker. More common (ones you see more often) is the knuckles to then pot a hanger at what would have been the top right pocket on the shot he played. The addition of right hand side shows the intentionality of the shot he played.
@davidfelix2594
@davidfelix2594 Жыл бұрын
You think that shot was intentional...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he was playing in the jaws to hit the red directly without passing it and coming off baulk cushion to pot it, the reason he used that much pace was in the hope of moving the red and not leaving the pot on, remember Murphy needed 2 snookers at that point, there was no advantage whatsoever to him in potting that red.
@krystofdayne
@krystofdayne Жыл бұрын
@@davidfelix2594 No need to be an asshole about it just because you disagree. Yes, like I said, I do think it was intentional, if a bit speculative. That means I don't think that he thought he was very likely to get it but still thought it was worth trying it. Obviously his most immediate goal was to hit it at all but seeing how close it was to the pocket, he obviously would have thought about the possibility of it going in. And while, in an ideal world, he obviously would have preferred not to pot it but play a snooker on it, he couldn't guarantee or even really try a shot to snooker his opponent from the position he was in, he knew he would be lucky to even hit it. He also knew that if he hit it and didn't pot it, there was basically no way he wouldn't leave it to his opponent which would immediately have killed off the frame. So I think that his thinking was that he would try and hit it in a way that might pot it because only hitting it would probably be end of frame. He could obviously never be sure of potting it but he also couldn't be sure of hitting it at all. Either not hitting it, or hitting but not potting it, would have been end of frame for him. So yes, even though he needed snookers and would have preferred not to pot it but playing a snooker on it (and potentially getting a free ball), that option was even more impossible than playing a speculative pot on it.

@@SnookerPlanet Agree... great voice over and really good summary video, but (with respect) there are quite a few errors with the baked-in captions. Please have them proofed in future if possible, as it detracts from the quality - even if only a little 🙏 For example I spotted 00:22 "Than it happened" (Then) / 04:34 "Forsed" (Forced) / 04:53 "It's" (Its) / 05:05 "leaved" (left) / 05:46 "Standart" (Standard) / 05:58 "Ofthen" (Often) / 06:14 "amost" (almost)

Regarding the 3 misses: A free ball is awarded when the cue ball is snookered (the definition of snookered is different to what a player would call snookered & is means every ball on is either fully or partially blocked by a ball not on. The 3 miss clause is when centre full ball contact is possible; you do not have to be able to hit both extremes of the ball). You can therefore be warned for not contacting a ball on after your opponent had been awarded a free ball. Virgo was on commentary & was unaware of the difference. Ronnie was also unaware of it.

@SnookerPlanet Жыл бұрын
You can use carbon fiber cue no problem. But for some reason snooker player don't use them. I'm a pool player and I play with a carbon fiber since 6 months and won't go back to wood. But in snooker this is probably a tradition to play with wood and also snooker cue requires a lot of stiffness unlike pool where the cue should be more flexible. This might be a reason too

About the one-stick policy. Frankly, that sounded like fluff to me. Here’s my take…find a stick you like. Get 5-10 of them. Use them all in rotation so they wear the same. I used to play pool at a great location in my younger days. I’d joke with the manager that his “wavy cue sticks” or “tree branches” kept messing up my shots. (They we’re perfectly straight, of course.) his response was “it ain’t the arrow, Son, it’s the Indian.” I find it hard to believe that Ronnie can’t “make do” with an exact replica of his daily driver cue stick….I’m open to other ideas though if anyone with experience cares to share…,
