SA, if you're having trouble with Gwyn and need a winning tactic I've got one for you but there's a lot to it so you may want to copy and paste this and save it on a word document for later: the first thing you want to do is equip a small or normal shield in your left hand slot, then whenever he goes up to attack press the L2 button, he really can't handle it!

Dark Souls 1: Get a lot of health and poise and a heavy hitting weapon. Poise through everything. Out DPS every boss. You'll forget what it was like to struggle lol. Poise was broken as shit in DS1.

Well not really. Poise was working is ds1 :). That was actually how it was meant to work. Ds3' version of poise is weird. I couldn't really tell in ds2. But it seemed weird in that game too.

@@ZLemons poise worked the same in ds2 as 1 with some small tweaks. Your average enemy just did more poise damage so it offset. Ds3 uses hyper armor on your weapon with poise basically being entirely pointless as ur weapon and timing makeup 99% of what'll keep you from stunlocking

I guess that's why my first playthrough was relatively easy. I was a pyromancer and by the end I had two pieces of Havel armor, a +5 Lightning Zwei, a Grass Crest Shield, and 40+ Endurance by the time I got the Lord Vessel. I bodied Artorias. I started a second playthough with a Faith build and it is much more akin to the rectal pounding I expected in my first playthrough.

Easiest boss in the game is ceaseless discharge. Run in, grab the gold hemmed set. Run back to the door. Ceaseless discharge jumps to you. Attack his arm 4 times and he falls off the ledge and does instantly. He doesn't attack you over there either. Literally a boss that does nothing to you.... lol

I thought Nito weirdly spams an annoying attack if you have a light source. Also the Orsnstein and Smough fight it way harder if you kill Smough first. Alot of people like the loot from killing Orsnstein second better so many do just that and find a much harder boss.

King1Anime Call me a Sadist, but I found killing Smough to be much easier. Since Ornstein grows to about twice his size during the second phase, ducking under his legs basically grants you immunity to most of his attacks. Not to mention his lightning butt-slam is alot easier to dodge than Smough's.

[Boss Name] was the hardest?" you obviously lack the ability to listen to prefaces; he said that this list is based of his first full [mostly] blind run of the game. If you found the bosses easy on your first go-round you probably were not spoiled by the amazing battle flow that is Bloodborne (which tends to make you feel that other games are clunky and unresponsive, which makes you blame the game, and blah blah you know the spiral) or are just better, whatever.

laurence isnt difficult if you equip a serrated weapon and basically take the same approach as the cleric beast, and after the legs come off, just stay on the side of his little arm. I found him to not be that difficult at all. And since I went for and got platinum, I had to do all the chalice bosses... And holy fucking shit was defiled watchdog the bane of my existence. Defiled watchdog is albino's rom for me. I even found defiled amygdala pretty easy. but fuck defiled watchdog. Also fuck ebrietas if you're not using a strength build, bc shes impossible if you cant stunlock her and do like 2000 damage a hit bc you have all the beast runes, a beast pellet, and bolt paper on the two-handed form of the kirkhammer with charged R2s.

FINALLY, someone pronounces Smowggggh correctly. Bout damn time! Honestly I’m a very talentless player and not good at parries either but in dark souls 1 if you just started out a game where you parried now and again you’d be able to parry the shit out of Gwynn by the end. It’s slower with a bigger parry window then the other games. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever be able to parry and rarely even carried a shield(also I too have worshipped at the altar of the black knight halberd as a loyal zealot). I thought artorias was the hardest DLC boss, then again, I spammed throwing knives at his head when he tried to power up, and his pre-power-up form is super easy to deal with. and I also fought manus with Sif. And kalameet, I just stayed under his back legs.

I rarely understood why Manus is considered so hard to beat; could be a build thing. Myself, with a +5 crystal halberd, Sanctus (because sweet sweet health regen) and a beefed up paladin set, he went down in 3rd attempt (because I wasted first two looking for Sif summon sign) Artorias is a pain in his power mode, so I spent cca 8 tries before I figured out I could stagger him during the animation. And Kalameet.......tough, if one forgets to stay at his hind legs and does not bring a high magic resiistant shield

Turns out the moonlight butterfly actually only goes down to the bridge because it's eating the moss or whatever it is. Its HP restores by tiny ticks when it sits there.

Nito was so goddamn easy if you had a half-decent divine infused weapon, which downs skeletons permanentl.. Kill the first 4 skeletons, go around and kill the bigger ones one at a time while avoiding Nito, and Nito ain't shit by himself. Since you cleared the entire arena, you can just run away and hide around a corner when you see Nito charging up his orb attack.

Yeah, I completely agree with Gwyn. I also suck at parrying. I normally walk in the fog gate with full Havel armor, cast Iron Flesh, and just tank damage as it becomes the exact same as 2 guys in the 3rd round of a fight just standing toe to toe beating the shit out of each other.

Skeletons stay perma dead if you use a Holy weapon, or Weapon modified with holy damage. I also suck at parrying. I couldn't parry a basic hollow if my life depended on it. Gwyn however has good animations for being able to parry even if you suck at it. When he starts to attack count to 3 basically just hit the parry button at the exact moment you would say 3 and you can parry him. Any charge attack you start the count when he charges.

It took me 3 playthroughs to notice this, but the butterfly isn't landing to let you win. If you look closely it's eating the flowers, and they restore it's health. Pretty redundant strategy, huh.

I suck ass at parrying, but after getting my ass handed to me by Gwyn in a regular fight (i was using a two-handed weapon, so i couldn't parry) i decided to give it a shot. And after like 2-3 attempts - he was dead. It didn't teach me how to parry though, since, for some reason, his parry window is fucking huge, unlike anyone else in the game. And honestly, i don't think that's a "cheese" tactic. After all the shit that game put you through, you at least deserve a little triumph at the end.

For seath just get to a medium distance away from him while being in front of him he'll do an arc attack and then you move forward and attack his stomach once he can attack again just back up and repeat, only variation is when he does the mass aoe

There's actually a set up to defeat the 4kings by only killing 3 enemies. You can still damage the 4kings health by attacking a king during his death animation, with a powerful enough weapon it becomes the 3kings fight. By using tumblebuff glitch you can cheese it into 2 kings.

For Nito if you brought a holy infused weapon when you kill the skeletons they will stay down.

Gwyn without parrying on NG++ is an absolute nightmare. I've tried practicing parrying for entire playthroughs of dark souls. And I can never git gud enough for it. I get one lucky one occasionally, but probably less than 50% of the time. So, yeah, I Gwyn without the parry, and on NG++ it certainly felt like the hardest fight in the game.

When stray demon swings the staff to his side the ape is directly in front of him so it's best to stay behind him during that move, and when he slams the staff into the ground, the aoe is just encasing his body so backing up a but works too. He's actually way easier to fight naked or fastrolling than wearing heavy shit.

Gwyn is in the running for most unfun boss in the franchise if you step back from parries and try to fight him normally. The intervals between his attacks are so unbelievably low that literal perfect timing with midroll isn't enough to entirely get you out of most of his combos. I've found no consistent way of hitting him damageless with armor on except keeping your distance for millennia and hoping he initiates a grab for some reason where you can take a potshot or two. It really does seem like the "intended" way of beating him is to parry, and that FromSoft tried to punish any other playstyle. Either that or fighting him naked, which doesn't exactly scream "epic final boss"

Did you know that using a Holy weapon in Nito's fight keeps the adds dead? Also yeah Gwyn is either one of the easiest or one of the hardest fights depending on whether you can parry. Now I recommend doing what I did and getting through Dwayne the Rock Johnson back in the Burg by parry and riposte only. That set me up to pwn every Black and Silver Knight in my path, a couple more enemies, and of course Gwyn. From me to all readers, this is the secret of parry: There is the active stage and recover stage. By matching the attack in the active stage, you parry, and in recovery stage, a partial parry, not stunning the attacker but roughly cutting taken damage by two-thirds. The key is to make sure you parry right before the attack lands. Some shields have longer active frames, but a longer overall animation too, where others have shorter active frames with shorter total animation meaning you can parry sooner again.

It might be my build, but I actually would have put Gwyndolin lower on the list. He only has like... Three or four attacks that you can easily dodge or run past and doesn't have a lot of health. The only real challenge comes from his strong magic and his tendency to teleport away from you once you get close.

Hey man, just found this video and I really enjoy your commentary. Keep up the good work man! (And btw, as far as I've played Dark Souls 3 there is another one of those fatty demons, similiar to the Demon Firesage, in the catacombs near High Lord Wolnir and one in the undead settlement that you can fight together with a catarina knight.
