tl;dr-It's a base breaking installment that had a lot of cool stuff and a lot of bad stuff so everyone tries to forget it exists. The only thing from this game people can unanimously agree was great is Doppelganger Arle and her music.

I remember being quite salty for YEARS because the franchise never even attempted this more serious, detailed art to contrast with the crazyness of the characters and settings. I still play current Puyo games but I could never get used to the "new" art (which is, at this point, quite old already). I don't have a problem with it looking "cute", but the thing is...it doesn't.
