I have to agree. Very few of these are actual defeats. Him fighting space Godzilla is a victory. Him being carried into the ocean by Mecha King Ghidorah and later on Battra and Mothra aren't really defeats, just him being taken away from the city. His meltdown isn't a defeat either, Destoroyah never beat Godzilla. He was nearly killed when Godzilla first broke him apart and then the second time was retreating before he was shot down. Godzillas meltdown was due to the energy he absorbed, not that fight so that isn't a defeat. Godzilla also survives the black hole weapon

Toho announced, officially, the Kaiju from Godzilla 1998 is still copyrighted as Godzilla. He is still considered Godzilla for the purpose of that movie and, I believe, the animated series that followed suit (I could be wrong on THAT part). For all OTHER media, however, he is renamed Zilla.

However, Toho announced that they had NOT done so. For all intents and purposes, the monster from Godzilla 98, is still named Godzilla. I believe the same holds true for the animated series that followed the film, despite that being the same monster featured in Final Wars and all of the comics.

RESTINPEACE Ok you got a lot wrong here. Godzilla didn’t die in GvsMG2. That was debunked on numerous sources due to Toho’s supplimental material confirming he was still alive. He was only paralyzed. Also Junior didn’t explode and the fall didn’t kill him. It was the blast from Destoroyah’s oxygen destroyer beam that killed him. The a mere fall can’t kill Junior. Let alone Godzilla. Cuz of their regeneration factor. Also in vs Megaguirus it’s confirmed he destroyed the black hole and was merely burried underneath the earth from the explosion. I mean the after credits scene proves it. And he lives in Tokyo SOS as Kiryu’s action was to ensure a Godzilla’s survival and the safety of Japan while being put to rest. And Kiryu didn’t drown. To kill Godzilla all his cells would have to be destroyed on a molecular or atomic level. Which SMG has no weapons capable of doing that. Plus one G-cell can regenerate into a new Godzilla due to there self-reproductive capabilities. When Fire Rodan transfers his energy, he mere enhanced his regeneration factor as well as powering him up. Making the healing speed increase more. In a near exact same fight scene with King Ghidorah, they both fell into the water and King Ghidorah flies away and everyone said he lost to Godzilla. Before anyone says it, Godzilla was not Dead in 1993. He was paralyzed and could not move, for the moment. Had he had more time, he would have repaired that brain without Fire Rodan sacrificing himself. The only way to Kill Godzilla, is atomization. He will regenerate any other way.

But having a second brain that enables him movement does not mean his bodily functions will be affected by it being destroyed. He is visibly alive in the movie, you can even see him breathing, slight movements. And Rodan's sacrifice not only powered him up, but accelerated his HEALING FACTOR. He has regenerated severe damage before, like when Destoroyah cut him in two, yet he did not fall apart, because his healing factor is that potent. G Cells are more powerful than you give them credit for. Godzilla did not die. No amount of disagreeing is going to change a fact. Or are you gonna say that he could be killed by being shot with coagulant in his armpit? You can insult me, get mad at me, and pout all you want. Godzilla is still alive and one shots composite King Kong. Now you have a reason to get mad. Godzilla didn’t lose to Kong. Tomoyuki Tanaka changed the outcome in his book that was published in 1984 and reissued in 1996. It was a draw. Plus the ending was to ambiguous for Kong to be declared the winner.
