Guys, I know that's a movie and not a TV series or sth. The reason why I used words "episode" and "cartoon" is because English isn't my native language. I was firmly convinced that "cartoon" is the right word. Sorry for my mistake. When I said "episode," I referred to "scene." Now I understand my mistakes. Sorry, and I will fix it in the next videos

Coraline being from Michigan is interesting because the movie came out in 2009, which is not too far removed when the state's economy got destroyed by the Great Recession. It probably explains why she and her family were moving.

Maybe, but the original book was written in 2002, and the script of the movie was probably made around 2005. That's way before the Great Recession, but who knows

What's interesting about that scene with Coraline's mother asking her to draw something was actually something that happened in the book. When Coraline asked her what she should do when she was bored and she said to draw something. Though in the novel, Coraline tried to draw a mist but couldn't so she wrote the word but spread it out.

I noticed how alot of the cut scenes really showed how much Coraline got along and loved her dad more than her mom, which kinda ties in with her care for the other father in the other world,I guess they wanted Coraline to have no reason to not want to go to the other world or stay there because if she went she would have a reason to want to go home which would really foil the other mother's plans entirely.

In the extras on the DVD, the director says that’s one of the main reasons they decided to make it a stop motion film. They thought about a live action, but thought the cat would look ridiculous, and also about a cartoon, but finally decided on stop motion. With how popular the Nightmare Before Christmas still is, (and he also worked on that) they made the right decision 😁

The scene where Coraline draws spirals is likely a reference to a scene in the original books where she attempts to draw mist but apparently can't think of how to besides writing the word m i s t in swirly font, especially because it transitions into mist-like spirals in the other world outside the window. Also, personally, I think the stain on the shirt was probably left there to save time. I'm sure they just reused the puppet and assumed the audience would guess he got a food stain from the dinner they're implied to have had before bed. If anything, the stain would help to imply that food was eaten recently and the father is a kind of clumsy, unkempt person. Apparently they were wrong to assume that-- I had no idea anyone paid that stain any mind lol.

The thing about the coraline and the buggy roses scene, is she still has the poison oak. That was gone after she went to sleep for the first night. The scene also ends with her going to sleep. In the kitchen scene after her and Wybie meet, she says “I almost fell down a well yesterday mom.” Meaning a whole day had passed. The mom could also know about Wybie because he left the doll on their front porch for her. She also never refers to him by name. She says “you’ve already made a friend.” I feel like the only logical place the scene could go, is after they meet. Though if you have any clarification on where it really goes, I’d appreciate that, because I’m trying to make an extended cut of the movie.

I think her smile was intended to be taken ironically. She understands that her parents are constantly at odds, and has become accustomed to it. I would love to see a Sequel, with Coraline as an Adult with kids… having to revisit the place where she endured all that trauma because maybe her parents are sick, or she’s helping them move into a new home(or nursing home)? But in the process she’s either trying to avoid having her children in the house as much as possible while her mother complains that she never gets to see her grandkids. Just stuff like that, would add so much. And possible Coraline finding out that children have been disappearing in the area? And realizing that the Other Mother lives and is stronger than ever, when one of(if not her only) child goes missing she finds herself going back into the Other world, which is a trap so that the Other Mother can finally get revenge. Coraline has to reach in to her inner child and outsmart the Other Mother once again. Maybe even go on a tangent about how crappy of a Mother the Other Mother was, for feeding off of her “children” before kicking her ass. Now I dunno about y’all but that sounds like a badass movie to me, I would watch the crap out of it. Especially if Wybie made an appearance at he end after Coraline and her child escaped the Other World, like “Hi honey” or something and then the movie cuts to black and that’s just it 😂

would be an interesting seque, BUT I would LOVE Prequel, where it goes to showing the beginning of the beldam and how she came to be, and what truly is the tunnel that Coraline is so afraid of? Maybe the Beldam's first victim was the "Boring Blue Boy" centuries before and that is why he isn't seen with the ghost children, or maybe somehow he became that tunnel considering Coraline saying it almost seemed alive and it was constantly changing with the books and the movies. Or maybe the Boring Blue boy is the cat that he tries to save the children but because none of the children listened he became grumpy. I'd love it to be the Beldame's origin story

I found it so interesting that the game seemingly "added" certain spaces to the area around the Pink Palace like the tennis court but since it was originally in the book, it's even more interesting that they didn't include it in the movie (like the inside of the barn), though I guess it wouldn't add anything to the story.

Well I guess maybe the scene with the coraline speaking to her dad about the ketchup stain would've ended a lot of unnecessary fan theories. Plus it may show that the dad isn't as depressed as he appears to be and make him appear to have a little more sympathy for him.

The film makes things kinda seem like she's in their way, but all these deleted scenes between her and her parents *_(_* _especially her dad_ *_)_* are so loving when she isn't in the other world. I really wish they would have kept the pizza scene. Losing them after they're kidnapped in the film would've felt more *painful* had they kept it in.

Idk why, but watching these removed scenes suddenly gave me a feeling like those characters are actually real people. And the whole movie is just an artistic pick of the sertain scenes to create an atmospheric story. But those scenes just show the same people in between the moments that were "picked" for the film, where they're still existing and living their lives in their own world.

I think the first deleted scene was (half) important. The film made it seem like nothing had changed, but Coraline lost her father’s progress turning off the power. This would’ve better expressed why her parents are so agitated throughout the entire film: they were set back about halfway with their progress, and eager to meet a deadline for a magazine company.

Also, to feed off when I said the other mother controls the regular world, I believe the dead garden plays a huge role and why the cat at the end was able to still go through the other side. It's crazy that all of these scenes were already fully animated, and they still got cut out of the film. Usually animated movies' deleted scenes are only in storyboard/animatic form, but sometimes it's surprising they are willing to cut out fully animated scenes.

I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this, but this was something crazy I saw in the scene when Coraline and her mom are in the kitchen. Coraline is telling her mom that she misses Michigan. While this is happening, she is picking the petals off of the flowers. She then finds a spider in the petals, and throws it behind her. It then lands in her mother’s coffee! An she drinks it! But the spider crawls out onto Coraline’s hand. HUGE beldam theory! Maybe that scene has to happen, in a way, in order for the beldam to be present and prepared. Like some sort of cannon event, if you get my reference.

I find it important to leave the scene where Coraline was acting all innocent and smiley. It's almost like a porcelain doll because it does resemble her own doll. Her own doll was a spy from the other world already setting the plan into motion for the other mother to get to her. This also shows how neglectful their parents are. We don't exactly know how her parents act, but due to how separated they are it seems like they're divorced or not exactly lovey dovey parents. It will add on more mystery in my opinion

After reading the book, I find it fascinating how Coraline's character is translated from paper to the screen. The book's overall "message" is that there is a difference between being brave and unafraid. When you are "brave", you can be terrified, but what matters is that you did it. I never really got this from the movie, but I am also not a film critic or connoisseur of movies, so I don't dig for meaning in scenes or characters. But, in the book, there is so much dialogue about how scared Coraline is and how eerie the "other" world is. In the movie, the viewer is asked to experience all those fears/emotions, which is why the movie is so enchanting and spooky. One of the spookiest parts, to me, is how "unafraid" Coraline seems and how, despite the craziness of the situation, she still continues to go back. I also haven't watched the film in a while, but I remember being most creeped out by how willing Coraline is to the other world's strangeness. She questions many things in the book and points out the "strangeness."

I can kind of see why the first few were removed, not only did they not really fit but they do just blatantly tell the audience what's going on. "The storm deleted Dad's paper!" "Coraline misses Michigan!" "The new school has uniforms, Coraline hates them!" We get that information anyways to be fair, but I like that they showed us rather than blatantly telling us in the final product. Not only does it keep the mysterious atmosphere but it also lets us piece together what's going on in Coraline's new life without being blatantly told that information

I believe the wholesome scenes would have actually improved the overall delivery of Coraline, as these moments of calm would've given more contrast to what actually went wrong. The dinner scene makes it seem as Coraline is forcing herself to act "normal" as a defense mechanism to her actually ongoing disgust and depression in her situation, which makes sense given her age.
