Sometimes things which aren’t designed with the intent of being scary are more scary than those which are. The Reaper Leviathan from Subnautica is a good example. Unknown Worlds didn’t design it as some overused zombie, ghost or serial killer trope. It’s simply a massive creature, a predator, doing what it knows - Hunting prey, which may end up being you.

It does not know its one of the last few survivors of the Orokin Sentient war as its been trapped for centuries in the plains of eidolon coming out every night calling for its kin to free it from its eternal prison made by the Orokin and now its losing the hope of being free and fighting with its kin once more. It cant reproduce like normal Sentients where if you cut off a arm it will regrow and the arm will grow into another Sentient but it was stopped by the orokin failsafe... Void Energy. When the Sentients returned from exploring the universe back to Orokin space the Orokins freaked out and initiated the failsafe it failed in killing the Sentients but it stopped them from reproducing angering the Sentients and a war between the Sentients and the Orokin had begun

I just remembered that when my friend and I were playing Warframe, he once told me that when he was playing without me, he saw a huge monster crawl out of the lake right in front of him.
