I think Will Stuart has a high chance of going. They need to take at least 3 tightheads, you'd assume Furlong and Fagerson (if fit) have two of those spots sewn up but beyond them the cupboard is pretty bare. The Scottish back-up tightheads aren't great and neither are any of the Welsh, so it's a shoot-out between Bealham and Stuart. If Stuart can continue his November form, I reckon he's on the plane.

Bealham has dreadlocks though...

He’s been consistently improving slowly and steadily. I’m quite pleased to see it. I imagine there’s a lot of worry and dedication on his part and it’s reassuring. He should be happy with progress. He doesn’t seem to be going backwards or being as hot and cold. Just consistently better each month.

How about Andy Farrell picking Jack Willis as a Bolter if he keeps playing out of his skin for Toulouse?!
@Daniboi9715 күн бұрын
Why not. He’s insane
@rustyfeatherstone935 күн бұрын
I think Toulouse will get to the Top14 final, which is on the same day as the Lions' second match. This will probably mean Willis (and Kinghorn) miss out, unfortunately. I would pick (and start) them both though!

Makes so much sense! For anyone to shine within that Toulouse team, speaks volumes as to the sheer talent he's developed.
@tomryder79035 күн бұрын
Pretty much spot on as always. I personally can’t see George going, think Dan has passed him now and there can’t be two spots there for England guys surely
@Dihedrals5 күн бұрын
I think Mitchell is the next cab off the rank behind Gibson park IMO. See how the six nations go, the Scottish also have contention to take that spot.

That's a great summary - nice one. Fortunately a lot fewer sleeps to the start of the 6N - but with the way January days go they definitely feel like weeks sometimes

Sitting down to watch - so interested to see if you think Jamie George is going - I don’t.
@Greg-ql8yt5 күн бұрын
Just watched - I suspect t your view is more considered. I keep thinking George will struggle to hold his starting position for England. Overall as you say results will have a massive impact on all the fringe players..

I’d take both Willis brothers if I’m Andy Farrell. Animals.

I think you should upgrade Tom Willis to the 2nd group. If his 6N performance is anything like his recent Sarries form, he has to have a very good chance.

Great video, please do it again after each round of the six nations or do your whole lions squad after each round if possible.

Good vid...where would you rank Underhill and Feyi-Waboso if they were fit?
@rugbyanalyst5 күн бұрын
Great question, Underhill moderate chance if he was the eng starter. F waboso strong chance as his work round the ruck is unique
@mikegray87764 күн бұрын
For me, Jack Willis must go for sure! Because the Top14 runs a couple of weeks beyond the Lions coming together, he is probably not down for a starting berth - but because of brilliant form, AND because he now regularly plays 8, 7 and even 6 for Toulouse, he is the LOGICAL shout for the 20 shirt in the Tests.
@clayton89445 күн бұрын
High Chance for me - Mitchell , M.Smith , Stuart J.Willis and Lawrence . A lot would depend on who is selected in the six nations by Borthwick , as I feel a few of the inform players could if given the chance make the trip ie; O-Fordjour , Hill , T.Willis , Coles , Randall , Beard and Murley .
@zkavess72945 күн бұрын
For someone like Willis or Kinghorn (don't know if Kinghorn is in with a reasonable shout tbf) how much of a factor do you think their season finishing as late as it does will have on their selection? Fwiw, final of top 14 is 28th June and first Lions game is 20th June vs Arg in Dublin (or match of the tour in Aus is 28th June vs Western Force). Realistically they'd probably miss (if Toulouse make the final) the games on the 20th, 28th, 2nd and maybe even 5th. That's a big chunk of the buildup.

Maybe, but from what I've seen his tackling is a little suspect sometimes. For a small quick guy Darcy Graham more likely I'd say

great chance for england this six nations.... they are very much going under the radar. they were not to far off against the southern hemisphere teams a few months ago. england should go back to playing it TIGHT through the FORWARDS and kicking. the crucial game is game 1 verses the irish. win that and winning the six nations is very much on the cards. win against the irish. there will be lots of english on the lions tour.... play it tight, pysical, low mistake rate, minimal penalties. play in the oppositions half. control the pace of the game.... winning formula for england....!

Can you do one for the other nations too? Would be good to then compare and contrast these.
@thewomble15095 күн бұрын
I could see more than a few English players in the mix, tbh.Playing for the Lions doesn't mean you have to be a regular for your country. Itoje, Feyi-Waboso, Smith, Underhill, both Baxters, the Willis bros, Martin, Chessum, and a few bolters too. I wonder if big Courters could be tempted back for one last big hurrah?
@markrobinson57804 күн бұрын
Frank Dunga is on the boat if you ask me
@justinstephenson93605 күн бұрын
IMO O-Fordjour has a moderate chance because he can play both sides. George Martin is a big unit but needs a decent 6N but if he does he has a high chance of going - but only if Lawes is not picked. Tom Willis is a high chance of going, his brother Jack also has a high chance. Owen Farrell is interesting. I assume that Lions will take 3 FH; Finn & Marcus are going and they have similar games but you need an option of a FH who is just a great game manager. Owen is definitely that but maybe Finn Smith is an outside chance for that role.

George Martin has a better chance for me. I'm pretty sure that Tom Willis is almost guaranteed for me. No chance for Freddie Steward, showed us in the Autumn that his defence is not good enough. Farrell is way too high in the list. High chance is bang on, overall a good shout buddy.

As much as I think he is a little past it, I reckon George Ford has at least an outside chance if he is played a lot in the 6 nations

On what planet does Freddie Stewart has even a slim chance of making the lions! He shouldn't even be in the England squad!
@douglaswright21435 күн бұрын
Great idea for a video. I am puzzled about England's players'chances of selection more than any other home nation and are therefore probably more dependent on the outcome of the six nations. I have a gut feeling that Ireland should provide the bulk of the squad, but the team and players may have already peaked, and, perhaps even more so, this may be the case for Scotland. I agree with your choices, mostly, but I think it would be difficult for Farrell to select his son and I think that Steward whilst elite in the air, is too slow on the turn. I feel sorry for Ollie Lawrence and Slade, but there is too much competition. Australia are traditionally the weakest of Lions opponents, and given the home nations attacking options in midfield and out wide, we should look to play a more "fun" brand of rugby (think ant-Gatland), entertain and bring back the spoils. I really hope Farrell selects Russell and Smith as his 10s, a Scottish/Irish midfield (Aki, Ringrose, Henshaw, Jones and Tuipolotu) and pace in the back three.
@GrumpyWurzel4 күн бұрын
Hope I’m wrong but can’t see much more than Smith and Itoje going. I’m sure more will, but realistically current England players are no where near quality of past
