As a Scot, I always liked to see Farrell, Cole and Marler among the enemy ranks. Same with Borthwick - can't you just let him muddle along and provide entertaining rugby... for the rest of us?

You're dreaming if you think he'll make that many changes, especially straight from the A team. He's been coaching the squad for the last month and he'll pick mostly from them - he needs a win!

Sleightholme and Pollock would replace IFB (as hes probably going to be injured again and we know how good he is) and Dombrandt (who is a great player, but Pollock deserves a cap).

Interesting comments of Santiago Gomez Cora about Dupont nomination as 7s player of the year "I don't agree with anything. Now I understand a lot of things that I already suspected, that it was this. The show rules and what France did with Dupont. He played two stages of the World Circuit and one as a substitute. He played 12 minutes in total in Vancouver, and they put him in the ideal team. We were suspicious from there. In Los Angeles, he plays more time and then is named Best Player of the tournament and so on... Then the ideal team and now Best Player of the year. I think it's too much and it's disrespectful. We (the coaches) used to vote. For the past two years, we haven't been voting anymore. Maybe they need to stop asking the coaches, because they might vote for a kid who's not marketable. Maybe France was the organizer of the Olympic tournament, and it suited them to fill the stadium. Who knows what happened there. You can doubt who you like more or less, but I used to vote and today I am not voting."

Itoje, needs to be dropped and should have been years ago. He gives away too many penalties and jumps into tackles and made to look stupid by the Bok defenders. He was also less than average in the lineout. There are other locks available that are better - Where is Chissum?

Honestly, Ox has been immense in the scrum, far beyond anyone else the last 18 months or so. He's also really worked hard in the other areas of his game. Tackling, carries, support, everything has gone up. It's a real shame that he's not nominated. From the list though, Eben and Sittiti.

I don't see the point of picking Spencer at 31 on the bench against Japan, I think we gain more playing Porter who combines with M. Smith... For me, Dombrandt doesn't come off the bench well but CCS does for Quins... I'd replace Dombrandt & Earl on the bench with CCS & either Pollock or Pearson. Finally, with Furbank at 15, you have cover for 10, so I would replace F. Smith on the bench with either Roebuck or Carpenter and if Lawrence doesn't deliver anything in the first 20 mins, I'd pull him off and replace him with Northmore
@robertwhalley882Күн бұрын
Borthwick is generally a conservative man and will be desperate for a win over anything else, so I dont expect a lot of changes other than to put fresh legs in after 3 tough games. I expect Davison, Coles and Hill might see involvement on the bench and possibly Northmore for Slade and Furbank back in.

4 very deserving nominees there for 15s player of the year. I think PSDT should take it though. He has truly been immense day in and day out. However, the lack of Ox Nche is truly a travesty. It's an embarrassment. What more can a prop do to earn a nomination? By not even nominating him, they've essentially stated that no prop can ever win the title.

The breakout player of the year is a coin toss between Sacha FM, and Wallace Sititi, with just the tiniest of leans towards the latter. The other two are a notch below, especially Osborne, who is really a token nominee and is the fourth pick by a considerable distance.

Dupont has no business being nominated for a World Player of the Year in 2024. This is not a popularity contest, or a media hype contest. He hasn’t done enough in 2024 to warrant a PotY nomination. Personally I’d drop Eben (who has been together with Ardie Savea and Antoine Dupont the best rugby player between 2020 and 2023), and would nominate Ox Nche, and Angus Bell. But they will, of course, never be nominated, because World Rugby hates scrums (and therefore hates rugby union, because a scrum is rugby’s most elaborate set-piece) and hates loosehead props. This is no slander, but an empirical fact. The only position not to EVER be nominated for a PotY is a loosehead prop. The winner in my eyes should be a coin toss between Kolbe and du Toit. The other two are just to complete the quartet and are already honored by the nomination.

I agree with you on this selection! I think Borthwick will have to make some calls about some senior squad members who aren't up to it. Too old, too tired or not enough hungry or overrated as simple as that! Just imagine if the RFU change their rule of selection you would have two important players plying their trade in France: Jack Willis and Henry Aundell! Willis ahead of Dombrandt and Arundell and Sleightholme ahead of Furbank. By the end of 2025 I would like England to look like the following: Opoku-Fordjour (Baxter), Dan (Oghre), Stuart (Heyes), Hill, Martin, J Willis (CCS), Underhill, T Willis, Mitchell (JVP), M Smith (F Smith), Sleightholme (Ibitoye), Earl, Lawrence, Feyi-Waboso (Roebuck) and Arundell!

I think Slightholme might feel a bit hard done by to be dropped after scoring 3 in 2. Would love to see Ibitoye though! Hey Rich, did you hear that England are going to try to get Junior Kopoku back to England by offering him an enhanced player contract? They should offer the same deal to Dom Young to get him into Union - launch him from fullback, all 6ft 7 of him - you get a devastating line breaker with the high ball ability of Steward but with less falling over. While your at it you might as well get Herbie Farnworth too and make him play 12.

His defence in the NRL is currently a well documented weakness, and I’d rather have a playmaker at 15 otherwise all the onus is on the 10 given we don’t have any distributors in the centre. Furbank definitely needs more game time, as he is the most rounded player. I think Josh Hodge and Joe Carpenter are on the up to offer more competition at 15.
