In fact, if you'll check, his performance in DABBANG won him the CRITICS AWARD for Best Actor at Zee Cine Awards and Star Screen Awards while srk won the POPULAR CHOICE AWARD for Best Actor for MY NAME IS KHAN. @Samudra Gupta Only during the 60s when Dev Anand was officially "King Of Romance", which isn't surprising coz he was the genuine handsome leading man, did he play roles emphasizing on a happy ending. Yet even during this era, his greatest performances happen to be in portraying dark anti-heroic roles namely MAYA, BOMBAY KA BABU, HUM DONO, GUIDE, KALA BAZAAR and more. During the start of his career too, his best acclaimed performances were as ambiguous characters in BAAZI, ZIDDI, TAXI DRIVER and JAAL, all of which were made before even Filmfare came into existence. Dilip ventured out of his comfort zone only during the hit comedy RAM AUR SHYAAM and to some extent during the family entertainer NAYA DAUR. So saying that only Dilip Kumar could fit into any role is a gross overstatement. True Dev Anand could never do BAIRAAG, DEVDAS or MUGHAL-E-AZAM but in these movies Dilip Kumar had ample support staff too, in fact MEM was more dominated by Prithviraj Kapoor and Madhubala. Plus, most of his above mentioned films were produced and conceptualized by Anand himself as Producer and head of Navketan Films. Besides, Anand was also deprived of several Filmfare nominations due to his disagreements with the Filmfare Press Committee else he'd have walked away with both Best Actor and Best Director trophies for HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA outright apart from being nominated for WARRANT, DES PARDES, NAU DO GYARAH to name a few. Additionally, despite his shortcomings, Dev Anand tasted success as an action hero too in hits like BULLET, LASHKAR, LOOTMAAR much before Dilip Kumar played from the same book in the 80s collaborating with Subhash Ghai for VIDHAATA, KARMA and SAUDAGAR in which he was made to look almost like a supporting character to the likes of Raj Kumar and even Anupam Kher(Dr. Dang in Karma to be precise). If one closely observes, Rajesh Khanna and srk copied the acting style of Dilip Kumar but their career trajectories ran more similar to Dev Anand's, in fact Khanna on record mentioned his romantic persona was influenced to a great extent by Dev Anand, as witnessed in ARADHANA during Kishore Kumar's legendary song sequence involving Sharmila Tagore and again in MERE JEEVAN SAATHI during his scenes and the song "O mere dil k chain" with Tanuja Samarth. Both have their own merits and demerits, both are legendary, both are dead.
