For those wondering what happens next, the author made an after story called food wars dessert where we see what happens to eveyone after the conclusion and it's assumed Soma and Erina got together even though Soma left the academy to become like his father before finishing his third year without telling anyone. Everyone else just became successful and solved their conflicts while waiting for his return to Japan

As for the opening ending, this is my Headcanon: I’m supposing erina still told him his food was disgusting but in her inner mind she always says delicious. In Erina’s inner mind she will promise to keep telling soma his food is disgusting because she knows he always brings the best dishes when he pushes himself to get her to say delicious. In her mind if she ever did tell him his food was delicious he wouldn’t have the same passion which I’m fine with.
