We then speak to the security supervisor who disagrees and says we can do whatever we like from the outside.

You saw the last remnants of the runway in your drone footage. They used to say they couldn't build an aircraft at brough if the tried, but they did a good line in knock off (aircraft quality) stainless steel exhausts, and garden sheds from all the packing materials. Milked by the owners and workers, thats why there's nothing left.

Great video and manager! 👍⭐⭐⭐ Manufacturing history of the BAE site dates to 1916 with Robert Blackburn manufacturing aircraft in Brough, later acquired by Hawker Siddeley. BAE sold up in 2014 and leases their facility in Humber Enterprise Park and announced renewed 10 year lease earlier this year. edit: item along the shore is a river navigation beacon on older O/S map and current ABP river chart for Reads Island to Whitton notes an automatic tidal gauge.

BAE Systems (BAES) was known as British Aerospace until around 1999 and has various sites nationwide, The Brough site was Originally The Blackburn Aircraft Company before becoming part of Hawker Sydley and later part of British Aerospace. The Brough site was involved in many aircraft but is most prominently known in the last 40 years for the Manufacture and Assembly of the Hawk, until around 2015/6 when production and assembly was moved to the BAES Warton and Samlesburu sites in Lancashire. The Brough site today was sold back in 2026 'ish to form the current business enterpriise park, and BAES only kept some technical offices and the remains of the Structural Test facility. I worked at BAES Brough for 20 years.

Thank you for taking me on a trip down memory lane. I went on a tour of this factory in 19 60 as an Air Cadet. They developed the famous Blackburn Bucaneer and Beverley here when the British AC Industry was second to none. The public should be entitled to see this when you think of all the taxpayers money spent there! Well done!

The decades where other countries had bi-planes as their front-line fighter aircarft, and we had the EE Lightning that would do TWICE the speed of sound. Now we mostly buy foreign tat. Did you know that now that the L85 (SA80) is one of the most accurate and reliable assault rifles in the world, grubby bean counters have been working to get it replaced with more US built direct impingment rubbish (Knights Armaments KS1). As a result, instead of the 20 inch barrel that the L85 bullpup has, the lads will now be carrying a weapon system with a pitiful 13.7 inch barrel, despite the "new" rifle being a full 3 inches longer!! You must be about my dads age... I would have done anything to have been a young man in the 60's. Putees, floor bumpers and the venerable 7.62mm SLR. Proper stuff!

I remember growing up opposite this factory in the 70's and 80's when it employed 5-6000 people and all the site was British Aerospace only. We used to see airframes going in and out and the wind tunnels were very active with testing. The runway you saw used to run a lot further up. In fact it used to run almost up to the large pond which did allow for planes to takeoff and land. The pond was owned by Blackburn Angling and the employees used to fish there while also having open competitions and Juvenile competitions. All the security guards used to be ex forces however that may not be the case now. Nice video and very nostalgic. Strange to see it how it is now as I remember it when there was literally a stream of people coming in all the time from the train station which is about a 5 min walk from where you were filming on Saltgrounds Road.
