Oh, my poor Steve Barton. I miss him, even though I never met him or saw him, for some reason, I feel like I can say that and it's appropriate. His voice is so soothing and comforting. No one ever talks about him, not even in the specials, not sure why. I even named my Dragonite 'Barton' after him. . . well, that and because in the original episodes of the anime, it sounds like it's saying 'Bart, bart!', but I digress. . .

Probably when Phantom stopped being played by tenors. Personally I think they should both be baritones or bari-tenors with contrasting vocal timbres. I think Raoul could have a very light, young baritone voice and Phantom have a very powerful, dark one OR the Phantom could have a very light, ghostly baritone voice and Raoul a warm, rich, crooning one.

Got to see the late Mr. Barton play both Raoul and The Phantom. Loved him as Raoul and while I found him good as The Phantom I felt the only one he could have seduced was Raoul. Sadly never got to see Michael Crawford play The Phantom. My favorite to date (of one's I've seen) is Howard McGillian.
