The splitting of the Moon (Arabic: انشقاق القمر) is a miracle in the Muslim faith attributed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. This is what happens when one reads the Qur'an, expecting it to be anything like the bible. The Qur'an is the verbatim words of Allah, not divinely inspired thru anonymous human authors, several centuries after. The Qur'an is not about Mohammad pbuh. It was not authored nor written by the prophet pbuh as he was unlettered. It was revealed to him over the course of 23 years, which he memorized and conveyed to his companions, who also memorized and recorded the verses. The text styles evolved later and were standardised when Islam spread to regions of non-arabic speaking people (and they needed text that are phonetically more precise). The contents of the Qur'an cannot be compared to the Bible. The Qur'an is clear on who God is, with many explicit verses which do not require any stretch of the imagination or extrapolation. There is also a chapter on who God is. The Qur'an is preserved in its original language in which it was revealed, thru primarily the oral tradition over generations and masses, supplemented by standardised text. Memorization of verses from the Qur'an is very common among Muslims.
