Trying to understand bitcoin at my mom age and explaining, it’s like sending e mail to someone and you and I both know it got there, but trying to explain “ how ?” Is the tough part. Sometime you just need to believe….. trust it.

For me, all-in Bitcoin means having every cent in Bitcoin and paying for everything with it. This also means a lot of possible taxes and paperwork if a swap is made in fiat.

@RobinSeyr in most jurisdictions every BTC transaction creates either a short-term or long-term​ capital gain. Some platforms will track that, others not. Many free spreadsheet templates are available from Google or Microsoft to help you track it yourself. Then as part of your annual tax report you have to itemized all those transactions and pay tax if you have an overall gain. If you are a citizen of El Salvador, Bitcoin is legal tender so you don't have to do that. Here in Colombia there is proposed legislation to let banks set up arrangements with government approved exchanges to allow account holders to have a Bitcoin side account that can accumulate or spend up to a US$3000 limit every month without tax consequences. I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar development in the US.

Until there is a taxable event, ie selling your BTC, there is no tax to manage.

In most jurisdictions, BTC is considered a commodity and thus when sold any gain or loss falls under short-term or long-term capital gains or losses. Some platforms will help clients track those gains and losses while most don't so individual clients must do that. Many spreadsheet templates exist to help as well. In the US, within individual pension schemes trading free of taxation is allowed.

I have a SSAS pension. It’s the only type of pension in the UK that allows this and many SSAS trustees won’t permit it

In a SIPP you should be able to invest in the ETF. In my SSAS I own actual Bitcoin

@@Russel-Coultart ok thanks. I have a SIPP but they do not allow purchase of any of the etf’s. So will look into the other option. For now I hold MSTR as a proxy so at least there is that option! Great podcast guys really enjoyed it and you have a similar journey to mine…at least we are on the right path now.

I guess you’ve never heard of btc dominance charts? Terrible advice to tell people to move into btc now. There are entry points to btc, and valid to HODL. But reallocation to btc at this time of the cycle is leaving gains on the table.
