All-in-one system for carbohydrate counting, glucose monitoring, and insulin delivery

A team of engineers from MIT and Brigham and Women's Hospital have developed a set of automated all-in-one systems for carbohydrate tracking, glucose monitoring, and insulin delivery. These systems integrate computer vision, medical device development, flexible electronics and significant pre-clinical testing to demonstrate these all-in-one systems.

I'm not sure I get what the purpose of this is. I already have a closed loop system with the Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor and the Tandem T:Slim X2 insulin pump. I never have to extract blood for a glucose reading as the Dexcom G6 takes readings every 5 minutes which go to the pump. The current G6 sensor lasts 10 days until it needs to be changed. The pump is them able to not only deliver bolus doses but also delivers the basal and stop if if my blood sugar is dropping or low. This is the closest thing so far to having a "normal" life for type 1 diabetics. The only "new" thing is the computer vision to help estimate carbs, which I suppose could be helpful ... but I don't see how that can't just be a huge guess. With the closed loop system I have now, I don't even have to enter any carbs into my pump. It will still bring down my blood sugar automatically but it just takes longer as it responds to the G6 sensor readings. The FDA restrictions means it can't take more aggressive action to bring my blood sugar down -- but I'm confident with my profile dialed in, it could easily control my blood sugar quite well.... considering the body's own endocrine system is reactionary to blood sugar, there is no reason a closed loop CGM+Pump couldn't work in a similar fashion. So my assumption here is this is a solution for type-2 diabetics who are lackadaisical about their care? Something to help ensure they actually check their blood sugar?

IN contrast to existing glucose sensor implants such as the FreeStyle Libre (42) or Dexcom G6 (43), THEY envision the glucose sensing capability to be incorporated into a disposable, one time use insulin needle.

I am not sure how accurate computer vision can be to count carbs because there are billion different types recipes we cook so app identifies donut where is made up so or no sugar or less sugar how does it count

Nice video, I use FreeStyle libre with Nightrider, it help me to continuous track the glucose on the phone. They are a game changer, save me having to do multiple finger pricks everyday.
