Great talk. This might be ignorant, but as president at Harvard, why didn't he implement these changes he's now speaking of? Happy to learn.

I, too, am no expert, but if I had to guess, it's probably the same reason that the President of the US can't just pass any law he wants. It has to go through Congress/Senate.

Listening to Larry Summers best explains why I wanted to go to an institute of higher learning. The exchange of ideas, the chance to see points of view that were radically different from my own, the chance to hear someone else define the world they lived in as opposed to the world I took for granted, maybe even finding out I was correct every now and then, were things I wanted to explore. I wish I could have known people like Mr. Summers. For those of you who have known him, consider yourself blessed. So far, he's been the most interesting speaker of all. Thank you for inviting him.

Larry Summers loves the sound of his own voice. His intonation smacks of huge self reverence. The hosts dutifully coddle his gigantic ego by implying the Federal Reserve of the USA, the number one central bank globally, would have adjusted its monetary policy in reaction to Larry’s (overly alarmist and fantastical) prognostications. The Fed somehow didn’t see well, but our all mighty Larry saw through it all, only if Powell had listened to him. All actors here seem past their peak and prime and still seeking glory which eludes them

Larry said education needs to include objective measures like standardized testing and then went on to claim that racial discrimination in admissions is good because it helps those that wouldn’t otherwise be accepted based on testing. He also said achievement should precede self esteem not the other way around. Larry, please make sense of this. Smh.

Larry is saying the buzz words as a politician. He knows all what the audience wants to hear is what is required but knows very well it will never happen. So it doesn’t hurt him at all saying it. He is mostly threaten by what the Supreme Court did throwing out affirmative action and kept merit based entrances. That is not Larry cup of tea. It’s cool to say it integrates all but history has shown us that is not the case. And he knows very very well that legacy admission is here to stay. But cool to say that it should go. So thanks Larry. A good retirement is what you need.
