I watched Rivers play in the AFC title game with a torn ACL while deployed in Afghanistan. Agonized with LT as he sat on the bench during the playoffs. Remembering Week 2, 2020 just brings chills up my spine. Watching Justin Herbert trot onto the field for the first time was shocking and he really stole the show. It honestly was emotional, very emotional... I could not sit down (and still can't when the Herbert is playing). Chargers fans were still a little numb from Philip Rivers moving onto the Colts, but Herbert gave a whole different (and new) type of hype of being a Chargers fan. Then every week after that, Herbert (and us Chargers fans) just gained a massive & mesmerizing momentum of fandom.
@MYLEFTFINGER3 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad rivers finally left not for the chargers but for him. For the last 3 years I've wanted him to leave so he could get what we couldn't give him at that time. Which is success. I hate that he only got 1 year with colts before leaving the game. As for my boy Herbert? He made this team look completely different and the thought that he's regarded with the same respect (if not more) as Dan Fouts drew Brees and Phillip rivers is beyond anything this fan base could've ever expected. What he did his rookie season is quite literally historical for the NFL and he plays for us with mahomes in the division. Like what...

I grew up in Virginia and loved Dan Fouts and the Chargers. Moved to Oregon when both Oregon gteams were *terrible*! I picked the Ducks because I hated orange and Green was my favorite color. Hung with them since and became a renewed Chargers fan when they drafted Justin. Again, eerily enough, Justin became starter at Oregon a few games into his freshman year because of injury and never looked back. I’m convinced that if the next week’s AFC championship vs the Bengals, the Freezer Bowl would have been played anywhere else, that would have been our year. Over the ensuing 4 decades I’ve endured a similar pattern of exhilarating highs and soul crushing losses, but remain a diehard supporter. Every new season brings hope to every team. Even the lousiest ones that deep down inside know they won't be very good, even they will have slight hope, knowing every team starts 0-0. For once, I don't get that feeling with this team, these Chargers. As a legitimate fan since 1981 through thick and thin, ( mostly thin ) ups and downs of this organization I can truly say that this season just feels a little bit different. Sure, every off season brings optimism as you'll read "fluff" pieces by reporters about the team or certain players to keep your interest BUT the future is so bright in Bolt Country and some of us old ones do recognize the difference. Justin Herbert is just a breath of fresh air with out of this world talent, Super Bowl talent. Coach Brandon Staley absolutely checks all of the boxes with his passion and love for coaching. Those young Men care, those young guys "WANT IT!" I won't ride off the tracks and pretend I know how the season will unravel or what our record will be in the end. All I know is that I'm once again excited for what the future holds. I've only felt we've had a legitimate chance of winning it all a couple of times in 40 years of fandom and I can now add a third with this current team, and coaches. Let's go CHARGERS! One game at a time, let's take care of Washington first and move towards our destiny eventually shocking the World!

I knew he’d be a star but with COVID, Lynn as the HC, the vitriol on being a bust, having a bad OL and zero off season I just thought and hope he sit out the yr. I met him his freshman yr and he was just so polite and humble. Even to this day his doesn’t want to fail and let his teammates down. His freshman yr was tough and he handled so well. His 2nd game as a true frosh he threw a interception in overtime and lost to CAL after doing everything passing for over 300 yds, running for yards. He cried bc he thought he failed his team. It’s so important to him. It’s for fun, team and the love of the sport.

I love this coaching staff.Staley is what I have wanted for the Chargers sense Marty and before that Don Coryell.If this team just has average luck it's going to be amazing.I am very happy no crazy into what we have here.

Chargers fan since the 90’s and I’ve never been so proud! I wanna run through a wall of excitement lol. All I wish for is for a healthy team, everything should play out fine, if they can stay healthy.

I think that first drive was so important. If he had got it wrong his confidence would have been shot, but it ended in a TD so it was all uphill from there. How many young QB's have we seen getting their first snaps/drives wrong and they never recovered. I'm so glad it went the right way for Herbs and he has never looked back.

I’m a die-hard Patriots fan and I’m rooting for Herbert. This was an incredible video. I got you guys getting that wild-card spot this year at 10-7 👀

You see how all the rookies qb's are doing this year and it cannot be overstated what Herbert did last year. How did we get so lucky?
