4 hours part is a bit unbelievable. The longest Oil of Empires I played was like 1 hour and 40 minutes, and that's when attackers lost almost all of their first battalion on first two maps and started the 3rd one with 3 battalions. So it was like a 5 battalion battle. You really can't get any longer than that.

The Americans were so confident in this war. They've never experienced new warfare like this before. We thought we could easily take the Germans. Poor guys, never be too confident, especially in war. It kind of goes the same for when we fought the Japanesse, propaganda basically told recruits that the Japanesse were a bunch of small midget cowards. But when they met them on the Battlefield, they were blood thirsty. This really shows what propaganda can do and can lead to the deaths of thousands of soldiers. Brave souls they are.

@Declan Renault Well just like the narrator said at the end of the campaign, clashing ambitions, broken promises and unbalanced boarders set the tone for what we now know the Middle East for being today. The conclusion of the war introduced additional political upheaval to the region. In the West the war solidified already formed national identities. But in the East it shattered the imperial Ottoman system that, for all its faults, let a multiplicity of identities coexist for much of the time.

From 5:50 onwards the ottoman officer's speech is incredibly accurate in the depiction of its vocabulary and syntax of the ottoman-turkish language. Before the turkish language reforms in 1920s & 1930s, the lingua franca in the Ottoman Empire was ottoman-turkish, quiet distinct from the current turkish language if I may add. This language linguistically developed over centuries with strong influences from persian & arabic and resulted in a beautiful literary language, the language of poetry. Coincidentally, the speech from said officer turns into an almost poetry-like deliverance, if you so will, and sounds impressive as well as gorgeous. Edit: Particularly the following 2 sentences are done incredibly well: O kara altınki, belâsıylada nimetiylede, nicedir bu topraklarda. O kara altınki, devletleri kılar imparatorluk, Adem evladınıda canavar. This black gold, with it's curse and blessing, is abundant in these lands. This black gold, turns nations into empires, and the sons of Adam (metaphor for humans) into monsters.

I keep reading about these "Drastic" changes between Ottoman Turkish and nowadays Turkish... But how is it really changed except for replacing Arabic/Persian vocabularies to Turkish ones? Has anything else also changed? Like phrase structure, or the grammar?
@Hannah118763 жыл бұрын
The differences included grammar and syntax too and it was not restricted to vocabulary. Take for instance the labial harmony, a set rule in modern turkish, partially absent in ottoman turkish (the Istanbul reading style-platal harmony aside, which later became the standard for modern turkish) to the point of complete negligence. We also have differences with regards to the definite accusative, dative, ablative, etc. With regards to syntax differences there was this phenomenon of غلط مشهور ġalaṭ-ı meşhūr. Basically the ottoman language would not only adopt foreign words (mostly arabic & especially persian) the language would also adopt foreign grammar structures previously absent in ottoman turkish, resulting in a new set of rule called Ezāfe-construction. A good example for this phenomenon would be the translation for "Ottoman Empire". In the ottoman turkish language it is "دولت عثمانيه / Devlet-i ʿOs̲mānīye" whereas in modern turkish we say "Osmanlı Devleti" (The Ezāfe construction is eliminated entirely, thus the words reverse back to their initial state).

I just realized that Oil of empires takes place in 1914-1915. in Al-Faw it says Al-Faw Peninsula 1914, then it says Suez Canal 1915. So Oil of empires was beginning of the war, so it makes it the very first Ottoman attack on the canal. I wish EA/DICE wouldn't have had the British Empire have steel helmets. Neither should the Ottomans Since the steel helmet wasn't invented until sometime in 1915.

@@yazar6008 DICE is so sensitive about this issue, especially when it comes to diversity. That was the reason why BFV failed. I've been playing Battlefield since BF2, so I am quite familiar with their beliefs. You could see some diverse classes in BF1. For example, Germans have black scouts, Brits have Hindu medics, Russians have female scouts, even Ottomans had a taste from that. That could be the reason because some of the voice actors were hired from those specific areas. DICE wanted to show different ethnic groups in this specific game. Unfortunately they overdosed this in BFV. So my point is they probably wanted to show that Ottomans were an empire which had many different ethnic groups. I think the voice actor did well to show that, because in Suez operation voice actor nails the Turkish accent. Especially intro cutscenes are nice, they speak Turkish but it is too good.

Is the name tom and jerry came from there?
@nicolastames56686 жыл бұрын
fachreza eka kurnia I used to thought that, because the brits were called tommy's and the germans jerry's, and how the cartoon was made in the 30's I believed that the creator inspired from this, but the name comes because tom and jerry were common names of cats and mouses in the year of those toons

But in cartoon jerry always win, i always thought that the creator are the german

There is nothing shameful in defeat. We fought like lion but they were stronger.

DICE really just dropped the hardest multiplayer shooter in existence on us and then immediately went on to make two mid to mediocre games.

I mean oil wasn't discovered in Arabia until 1938 but ok
@Hannah118763 жыл бұрын
The speech about oil you are referring to is dealing with the Fao Landing which took place in Iraq in 1914. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fao_Landing Oil was first found in the middle east in 1908 in Masdsched Soleyman, only around 200ish miles away from the Fao peninsula. www.bl.uk/maps/articles/oil-maps-of-the-middle-east

They were extremely lazy in the German version of this game. The British and Americans don't even speak english. No, they speak german and they have the *exact same* voices as the Germans. So whenever I hear someone scream I can't tell if it's one of my dudes or some Yankee or Tommy.... It's sickening.

there should be an option to make the teams speak their language. at least in english versions we can make all teams speak english or their local languages, should be in the audio options

AFGuidesHD WOW!Thanks! It's so much more different than I thought. The reason I imagined him sounding like the man in Battlefield is he sounds so evil and over confident! Still, learn something new everyday

lol how did that one sound evil?

AFGuidesHD Yeah I feel like that one sounded actually sympathetic towards the Germans

Aidanator 800 to me he sounds more exhausted and depressed. I believe it depends a lot on a background score
