I will never understand why Dice decide to remove the soldier opening dialogue and the narrator for BFV. I loved hearing what the soldiers were thinking and their perspective on the war before the battle begins. I also like the historic narration that happens before and by the end of the operation. It really gets you immersed into the time period. Features like these is why I considered Battlefield 1 as one of the best Battlefield games out there.

_Kaiserschlacht_ could have been enough motivation for me to play this game - first BF ever for me - for only one reason: my great-grandfather fought in the Battle of la Lys, under the secondary operation codenamed _Georgette_ . He was a soldier of the Portuguese Expeditionary Force (CEP) there, and being in the front without relief for too long. German attack there was precise and brutal, with a long and heavy bombardment. They knew the Portuguese 2nd Division there was exhausted, and was going to be relieved precisely on April 9th. Also, the 2nd Division was flanked by two British Divisions, the 55th to the South, and the 40th to the North. Attacking there would increase the effect of confusion between the Divisions. According to my great-grandfather, at one moment of the battle, only he and an English sergeant were left alive in the frontline. The sergeant asked for a white tissue in order for the both of them ask for surrender. My great-grandfather gave his tissue to him, he got up to wave it, and was instantly killed with a shot in the head. Right after it, a German soldier stormed into the trench, and hit my great-grandfather with a trench shovel, that would have him killed if it wasn't for the helmet. Once captured, he was forced to carry cannon shells for the Germans to fire against Allied lines... From there, it was the march to Lille, and then to the POW camps, for months of hunger and lice... In his later life, dar marks appeared under his eyes: a gas exposion effect right back from the Great War, he would say.

As someone who this game not only got into history but writing, I can safely say that operations is the PEAK of battlefield, and this game is my favorite of all time. Not only did EA and DICE make it stand out for its ww1 setting, but they pay an INCREDIBLE amount homage and dedication to the history and interesting things of World War One. An era practically forgotten by most FPS games and glossed over in schools, I can’t even begin to describe how much more this game alone got me into history and an introduction to battlefield as a franchise. Operations is so chaotic and infuriating but when it ends, no matter what side your on, the ending speeches feel straight out of a documentary, not to mention how it gives you the perspective of the soldiers which I just think is cool af. Not to mention the DLC’s, how it doesn’t only focus on one front, even the base game touches on the Italian and Middle Eastern fronts, but Turning Tides, TSNP and In the name of the tsar? Every one of the DLC’s felt so damn unique and had me stoked to play it way back when, Apocalypse was meh but still great, I could go on for literally hours explaining how much I love this game. Because it’s truly a brilliant, magnificent game. Far better than BfV and 2042.

@orangeairsoft72922 жыл бұрын
I like how each side is biased and has their opinions on the other side. For example in the Fao Fortress and first mission, the British intro had the ottomans called 'savages' (0:51) and then goes on about wanting some champagne after they will obviously win. But the next one in the Suez intro, the same guy said, "Whatever you may think of these damn Turks, you cannot call them weaklings" (2:27). His arrogance seen in the first bit is gone after seeing what they are capable of. The German intro for Ballroom Blitz is more or less the same. The guy is arrogant and sees the Americans as 'soft' compared to the battle-hardened Germans, but calms his tone by the last battle. Its a nice detail to have and adds so much.

I think the map was supposed to be the area of Bras sur Meuse (cote 344 would be the cote du poivre, the mormont farm would be the haudromont farm, up the slopes of the ravine you'd come across the Froideterre defensive wall with lookout posts and then on to Douaumont. There aren't major defensive fortifications like that around Samogneux. Still love the map though Verdun needed a single player campaign all on its own!

I like the alt history aspects of the operations when the result of the game doesn’t line up with history, the narrator speculates on what happens if the outcome of certain battles were different and how that would have had an effect on the war as a whole, while for some operations it’s bold to assume that the other battles in the operation wouldn’t have happened because the attacking team failed in one of the previous battles (oil of empires) you can still put that stuff aside because you understand it’s a game and the devs didnt have that in their vision of the operations game mode. This game is historical adaptation done in the best way that I have ever seen, and deserves its place in gaming history.

These songs just made the game. Losing a sector should feel like nothing, its a f*cking game after all. But when the music kicks in it feels like there is so much at stake, like faith of the world is in your hands.

It is, in a way. Theater battles decide the fate of Europe and thus the rest of the world, losing a line feels like fate itself is tipping and because of the nature of ww1 losing would mean that you nation, your way of life and pride would be stripped of completely and make all the suffering for nothing. It truly makes victory all the more satisfying while defeat all the more terrible. Oh what a lovely war!~

Truly the best battlefield. Perhaps the best war game? It is a great adaptation indeed when it unveils the truth that history is more exciting than fiction. Who cares about Halo and 40k and nonsense when you have an epic game like this with this music showing a real war between epic nations over one HUNDRED years ago. It's mindblowing. The bravery, the sacrifice, the determination, and grit and perseverance of the human spirit is a great story indeed. How could ever mere human writers and nerds ever replicate or imitate the epicness of human history in fiction? It is not possible. Therefore this is one of my absolute favorite games ever. Whichever nation I played as, I felt immersed in that role, and especially the close matches I wanted my side to win. I wanted to hear our general congratulate us and salute us for our victory after the battle is won. And the immense satisfaction upon doing so, when you contributed and possibly caused your side to win which couldn't have won without you. No other game has ever done anything like that.
