Of course it was absolutely fabulous every second through, but I remember the atmosphere in the cinema freezing solid every single time she appeared. Ultimate scene-stealer, I just can’t wait to see what more she gets up to in Part 3!!

​@hypatia137 His mother was corrupted by the water of life and paul is not his genes, the story makes a lot of effort on conscious choice, this ordeal literally start because Jessica chose love over duty. But he did lose a bit of his humanity when his mind expand, whether there's more to it or is a writing flaw i'll need to watch know. In the book, he starts as a normal 15yrs old, even do pranks and joke around, he's very scared and nervous with all the changes in his life. Gurney and Yueh thinks he's not ready.

It really isn't - it's just a symptom of Paul's character: For all his power, and his clear, deep love for his mother..? He really couldn't do anything. Forget for one second that Jessica, all by herself, is a force of nature, but Paul..? At the end of the day, was simply all too human. (And JUUUST as Fxxked up as WE are... Dune is both a tragedy, and a cautionary tale. Case in point.

Strongly disagree. That's definitely corrupted femininity, far from ideal. That's not to say there aren't ideal destructive aspects of femininity, like e.g. represented by Kali, or the raw power of nature, but this type of sinisterness is manipulative, which is one of the darker aspects of the female psyche. True feminine power is motherly and nurturing, creative energy that builds and strengthens. Jessica is literally the opposite, subversive and scheming as she sets in motion what's to come after part 2.

It's a bit deeper than that too - the fetus, Paul's sister, turns out to be a dark and tragic character. While in the womb she's obviously exerting influence on Jessica. The persistent moral of the series is that while there are superior men and women in the world even they do not have full agency over who they are and what they do - at least not for a few more books until humanity evolves to be even more independent.

Neither villain nor hero, that's the point of Dune. A religious politician with an agenda, such as everyone on this universe (and in ours as well). The path she's walking on will empower her as much as her son, but at the same time will liberate the fremen from their suffering, her actions are both good and evil.

The one that will is THE culmination of all their schemes and dreams. So it cannot be Alia, on gender alone.

My biggest gripe with these films is how much they lessened her role. Dune is very much about the rise of Paul but it is just as much Jessica’s story as it is Paul’s as we actually spend just as much if not slightly more time in Jessica’s head than we do Paul’s. She had entire plot lines cut from the films that show how important her role was to both the BG and as a secretary in service of the Duke. Her actions and decisions shape Paul’s future. She’s pretty much the only character in Dune and children of dune that feels like she has real agency and not somebody being strung along by someone else’s plans.

In this adaptation's time period she's simultaneously inundated by generations of reverend mothers and the dark mind of her fetus. Which makes sense - she's still a newbie at being a reverend mother and is in constant discussion/influence with her unprecedented "abomination" fetus (who is revealed as truly a dark character later). I'm sure in later movies after Alia is born and she has galactic responsibilities she will rediscover herself and that growth will make it even more impressive.

The look to the Reverend Gaius is SOOOOOO GOOOOD!!!! Like "look who's back and more powerful B!TCH", and she didnt need to make a face, her whole opulence was a statement. She looks so capable and in control, she's an outsider but totally hijacks these people, starts with nothing besides her skills and get everything, that's fucking amazing and i with more were this strategic and manipulative. I truly wish she has tots of scenes of control on screen and influence off screen, Paul is the prophet but here she seems to be the true leader and exploiting the fact paul is entangled. I get Varys vibes, i also would truly love more strategic people like who has less or superpowers unlike Paul who's more than half of his op is being prescient, it will look L vs Raito. If this is better or worse than the books is another story im yet to know
