Being honest, I'm okay with Metaphor going outside of the typical waifu route. Without story spoilers, you're spending most of your time on the road and focusing on the branding of your message to the peoples of the road. A lot of politicans are on the record saying that campaigning for their offices killed their sex lives until they either won or lost, so I can believe that the protag/waifus would feel they don't have the time/luxury of romance for the time being.
