2:40 yoooo is that a platform fighter on the gameboy? The essence of smash bros before it was even conceived. That's quite something I gotta see if I can pick up a cartridge of that.

the original battle arena toshinden on 32 bit cd consoles have a ring out like in virtua fighter; it is just implementing that

@@japangamejunk Yeah, I think Battle Arena Toshinden GB might be one of the few/only GB fighters that has a Ring Out feature. Which is pretty interesting.

For the Japanese writing have you ever tried the camera mode on Google Translate on your phone or tablet? I'm often impressed what It can do but I'm not sure if it would work with something so pixelated.
@ZackGaz Жыл бұрын
I literally did this with all the Japanese games but had awful results. I never worked, not even a little. So I had to trial-and-error each game until I got the multiplayer mode to work, which takes a ton of time because you can't simply go back once you start the game - you need to reset the whole console and try again. This alone took a couple hours of troubleshooting. However, it worked a few times when I was recording my GBA Single Pak link videos. But didn't work at all with these SGB games.

@@ZackGaz Shame. It's impressive when it works. I even used it to find out what graffiti said in Far Cry 6 and even on Takeshi's Castle. 😂

Great video on such a fascinating topic. I bet there are more of these just not listed on the internet. 9:48 it also has an enhance SNES soundtrack, as we can hear. And one of the Dragonball games actually has a English bootleg translation. Wonder if it works with the sgb.

From the research I did, this should be all the multiplayer SGB titles. However, if I missed any, I hope viewers leave that info in the comments so it can be documented. Would be cool if an indie dev makes a new GB game to support this feature.

I had Battle Arena Toshinden as a kid, and I totally remember discovering its 2-player mode one day. A friend had a Super Game Boy, and I had brought some of my games over to try out. We played a crap ton of two player battles in jet mode for the next several weeks!
@ZackGaz9 ай бұрын
Yeah, this would have been awesome especially back in the day. Only needing 1 cart to play multiplayer is actually a huge cost saver when you are like 10 years old. Did you ever play any of the other SGB multiplayer games I featured in this video? Or just Battle Arena Toshinden?
@rummyraisin9 ай бұрын
@@ZackGaz Pretty sure my buddy had a copy of Wario Blast which we played multiplayer with as well. He had 5 older brothers and one younger, so there were always multiple generations of games mixing around at their house--whereas I only ever owned around five game boy games at a time, and no home console until I saved up for a gamecube in eighth grade 😅
@ZackGaz9 ай бұрын
@@rummyraisin It is always interesting to hear game stories when everyone was younger as those memories tend to stick with you. And I remember wanting Wario Blast when I was a kid but instead passed on it because I got the multi-tap and Bomberman on SNES so I didn't really need the GB version. And you only had enough money to get, maybe, a couple games each year.

@@ZackGaz Truly...It's strange how having fewer options probably increased my enjoyment of what I did have. I should dip into that state of mind more often. Maybe thin my herd...

@@rummyraisin When you are a kid, you have a ton of time but no money to buy new games. As you get older, you have more money but then no time. Can't even tell you how many games I bought and never played once, or only played for like 4 minutes. The conundrum of life.

I appreciate the Bomberman GB series (includes Wario Blast), Takara fighting games, and the Pocket Puuo Puyo series (Puyo Puyo, Pocket Puuo Puyo 2, Pocket Puuo Puyo Sun) with SGB multiplayer. Amazing video. What about the infrared function in GBC games?

I believe Titus the Fox has a 2p mode but would require a link cable, 2 GBs, and 2 copies of the game. It is not multiplayer compatible with the SGB.

Here’s a tip for a video. Link two GameCubes with Gameboy players on two TV:s and play GB games in link mode!
@ZackGaz Жыл бұрын
Yes, that would be living the dream. At some game conventions, they sometimes have 4 Cubes/GB Players connected to TVs so everyone can play Zelda Four Swords on their own screen, which is super cool.

@@ZackGaz If I would like to connect a Gameboy Colour to a GB Player on Gamecube for link mode. Which link cable is required?
@ZackGaz Жыл бұрын
@@MagisterHamid you will need a GBC cable then. A GBA cable won't work with GBC (unless it has a specific switch to toggle between GBC/GBA - some 3rd party cables have this).
