Morning! I am concerned that your pink and brown sandnes garn colours have the same tonal value and will just read as muddy rather than a colourwork pattern. I suggest taking a photo of them in black and white to check that you're happy with the contrast level, and to knit a swatch in pattern. I learned that the hard way 😊

I’m so excited about your announcement!! I’ll be waiting in anticipation for the call for testers! I’m really intrigued by your mention of machine knitting. I’ve always wondered about industrial machine knitting and I figure a smaller “at home” version of that would be a helpful learning experience. My 2025 knitting plans are so lofty and I know my adhd brain is running ahead of itself, but I really want to try some color work/duplicate stitching to add messaging into my projects, but for now I’m just focusing on finishing my first sweater 😅

A wee tip on colour work, if you're having trouble tensioning the floats...knit inside out. With the floats on the outside it's so much easier to sort of smooth them along. I've been doing this with colour work so long, I now do it with everything I knit lol. Maybe for a first pattern, try finding one where you don't have to catch the floats too much. Or a pattern where the longest float would be max 5 stitches, so you get a chance to get used to tensioning floats first before catching them. Hope you have a wonderful 2025 knitting and crocheting! 💜

I love my sentro and have loads of tutorials on my channel to help with you road rage but I think one thing you need to keep in mind when thinking of a knitting machine is gauge. They not like hand knitting where you can change your needles to suit the yarn, you have to buy yarn to suit the machine. So might not be great for scrappy projects. The sentro really only works with Aran yarn and even then it can be picky 😂. But it’s still a great machine, especially when you need a dopamine hit and make a cardigan in a weekend ❤
@CinemaKnitsКүн бұрын
Will watch your tutorials! Yes I think the limitations of the yarn might be annoying for me re: the sentro, I rarely work with Aran or bulky weight so wondering if a traditional flat knitting machine might work better….

Cable knitting is a lot of fun. Definitely make a guage square before you start I learned the hard way how much it changes the width of the finished garment. Luckily like you I like my sweaters a bit oversized so my sweater still fits just not a loose as I normally like.

For anyone curious about what patter is the Jaeger pattern, it's PBN D 5031, Matchmaker Double Knitting But it's easier to find it searching for Jaeger - Ladies Cable & Bobble Sweater - Knitting Pattern CinemaKnits, I'm so glad you're going to knit from Hollywood Knits! I'll love to follow your process, as I want to knit some patterns from it as well, including the one from your thumbnail All the luck for you with it!

12:00 love the white vintage sweater! that design in the middle reminds me of Hitomi Shida 15:23 Also excited about you trying those patterns from hollywood book. As of tight fitting knits: knitting flat is the most appropriate I assume. Allthough sholder shaping can be faked through a particular type of raglan knitting. I dont know its name in english, it is something like saddle shoulder raglan or somthing like this. In order for it to look like set in sleeve, you knit a narrow saddle shoulder and a shorter one too, it should end few centimeters before your shoulder bone ends. If you make the math right, it would look like set in shoulder.
@CinemaKnitsКүн бұрын
Like a European shoulder? Thats the technique I used for the brown crewneck I am working on - maybe if it’s scaled right the shoulder seams could be made narrower so that the sleeves start on top of the shoulder instead of a drop shoulder?
@wildgooseberrytea50 минут бұрын
@CinemaKnits no-no, the one i meant is actually called "saddle shoulder raglan", it is knitted top down and imitates raglan construction, but the raglan line follows a shoulder saddle shape and it doesn't look like classic raglan. But i guess European shoulder may work too!

Ooooh publishing your first pattern sounds exciting 🤩 I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you 🍀💚 Regarding the vintage knits, the Bygone Blouse by What Lydia Made came to my mind. I was wondering whether it's something for you, because it has the vintage aesthetic, but apart from the buttons there's no sewing involved. It's mostly knit in the round, has bust shaping and puffy sleeves which are knit on. The only thing on my list is a second Partner Pullover by What Lydia Made (I swear I'm not payed 😅) in Bi Pride colours. The rest will be spontaneous, because I hate planning too much in advance.

The bygone blouse is on my ravelry colourwork list! And the rumble raglan. I love Lydia’s designs and have heard amazing things about her patterns and the shaping/fit in particular!

Omg I relate so much to the sewing machine road rage. I consider myself super crafty, and I can easily pick up almost any craft and get quite good at it, but the sewing machine is the only thing that has bested me so far. I can hand sew perfectly fine, so I can do small sewing projects, but any time I have needed to use a sewing machine for cosplay, I've ended up in tears 😂

I just started making the bonnet pattern you made a video for! My biggest goal for 2025 is to knit a sweater. I've only made small pieces so far, like a headband, a hat, and a scarf. I want to knit a sweater for myself and also start getting into socks. For crochet, I want to make a pretty large art piece for my office at work. And I want to go through the majority of my yarn stash in general.
@CinemaKnitsКүн бұрын
Please keep me posted on the bonnet!! That seems like a great transitional item to make if you want to go into garments - it’s small like a hat but there’s a few techniques like picking up stitches and working in different directions that are really similar to sweater knitting!

My 2025 knitting plans are to use up more of the yarn I have and to actually knit patterns I own. I have a few pattern books and individual patterns that I bought thinking I'll knit it right after a current project but I end up not doing it :( I'm a very monogamous knitter and once I finish a project, I want to start on the next thing as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it doesn't always end up being something I already own/ have yarn for :P

Ok, it is not what I thought 😝 but awesome news nonetheless! Love your kitties! I'm a crocheter (started in 2016) and teaching myself to knit currently. I'm struggling with joining in the round, any tips you could share?
@CinemaKnits2 күн бұрын
One great tip I got early on was to swap the first and last stitch on your needles as you join in the round, to avoid a gap forming! I almost always do that and it seems to work well. And just tightening my tension up as I join

I’m also keen to get better at knitted colour work in 2025. Rather than start with a jumper or other wearable that everyone will see I’m going to try some colour work socks instead. That way I can practice the skill and if I mess up I will still have a wearable item but one that isn’t out there for everyone to see. Is that cowardly?
