I'm watching this in 1 sitting while cleaning up over a dozen seriously TLC dolls, so I really appreciate the virtual company! I just had to pause around the 37 minute mark- OMG, in regards to both the code switching and the "being out" on fb marketplace, I don't think I've ever related to something so hard! In terms of code switching, I always hesitate to call a doll "her" or seem too interested in something I really want, mainly out of fear they'll realize how interested I am & jack up the price. I do, however, notice that I change up my language & start calling the doll "her" & gushing over how lovely she is if the seller is a nice older woman who's selling her daughter's doll. Ladies like that always seem to feel bittersweet about the transaction, so I do love to cheer them up & feel like the doll is going to be loved again. I've never heard anyone else talk about the "being out" thing, but man, I felt that deeply. My girlfriend is always the driver when we go to pick something up (I can't safely operate a vehicle because I have POTS, lol), and it feels like every single time, we have some sort of conversation beforehand about what our "story" is this time. I think I've said "roommate" in a marketplace message more times than I can count, and we've certainly never corrected someone who assumes "sister" or "cousin" at pickup, either. It's not uncommon for one of us to show the other our outfit before we leave the house and ask, "Is this too gay?," or for her to mention on the drive that she hopes her pride-themed license plate holder doesn't cause an issue (which is an unfortunate, but realistic, part of driving to nearby small towns in Central Illinois.) It's a great privilege for some people to not have to think about these things, but for far too many of us, that's just reality. My girlfriend and I both grew up (and met) in a high-control religion, and she unfortunately ended up losing her family when she came out. It's absolutely conceivable to both of us, based on experience, that someone would back out of a transaction because they don't believe our love is "right." Or worse, that they think this doll is going to a child we know/have, and they don't believe a child should be "exposed" to us, which is a bad take I hear around here far too often. And that's not even mentioning the dangers of being two young, smallish, openly queer women driving to an unfamiliar town in the middle of nowhere, alone, with a wad of cash, and the possibility that the person we're meeting could be dangerous or violent to something they disagree with. Is it possible that the other person could be an ally? Of course, but unless they've got something public indicating that on their profile, you just never really know. Some of us value safe, easy, successful transactions, and that's okay! I definitely value my safety and peace of mind over being "genuine" in this area of my life. I'll never see this person again, and they're not entitled to details about my life if I choose not to share them, anyway. And if it means that I get to rescue a few rare, significantly under-priced beauties from bigots in the process, I'm more than happy to do that :)
@agtakesover7 ай бұрын
Thank you, THANK YOU for taking the time to write this. I was just speaking off the cuff when I made the comment about code-switching but obviously decided to leave it in. By leaving it, I was hoping to raise awareness about a point many straight collectors may not have considered... but the fact that it helped you feel seen and understood means so much. I hate that you *can* relate, of course, but I think it's probably validating to both of us to know we're not alone in doing this. I haven't lied (not that I am judging that - do what you need to to feel safe!!) but I've definitely omitted to be on the safe side, and it hurts a bit every time. I'm sorry that's part of your reality, but glad you have found a supportive person and have found the supportive pockets of the AG community. Also, YES about chatting up the grandmas and letting my love of dolls be on full display with them!!

Thanks for sharing your collection! Of the GOTYs, Historicals and TMs, we have 21 dolls in common! It's funny how some of your "meh" dolls are among my absolute favorites (Kaya, Saige, Ivy, Marie-Grace), while others that are your favorites are ones I wouldn't go out of my way to collect! 😋I think Giselle and Wren are my favorite dolls in your collection. They are so beauitful. The part about not knowing whether to call the dolls "she" and "her" when buying secondhand; that was so relatable! I'm also still upset over the new Joss "mean girl" eyebrows. I will not forgive AG for ruining one of the most beautiful face molds. If only they would add it to the CYO line that still has the old brows! I'd create a CYO immediately! Oh, and I totally would have picked up Journey for you in DeForest if I had known! I live right near there! But I'm glad it all worked out and you didn't even have to pay shipping!

I actually prefer multi-hour videos, so this was a treat! Your dolls are all so stunning, i could have watched a video twice the length lol!
@agtakesover8 ай бұрын
2X speed - WOW! I know I edit out a lot of dead air and false starts in my videos so I imagine that can sound REALLY fast. I start all videos at regular speed, but if someone is a slower speaker I'll up the playback incrementally. Sometimes depending on the pitch of their voice, it gets too squeaky at a faster pace. At any rate, that's a feature I appreciate for sure. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!

Oooh, yay!! I'm watching in segments and pausing to ţype comments as I watch. I actually love the classic mold and probably half of my collection are classics. I had good luck when I sent my crusty thrifted Kanani to the doll hospital, they even replaced her limbs as the new head was a lighter tan! So basically a brand new doll. Ah, Saige is my girl, the one that started it all for me! My $10 baby. She'll stay with me till the end, lol. I've sold a few of my AG, but some that I expected to sell have wormed their way into my affections after I spent so much time restoring them that I can't say good bye just yet. Agree, Grace Thomas is an exceptionally pretty doll! I don't have much of her collection, but maybe one day. I love the back story on your Lea! My Gabriella is also a very pretty one, but I haven't read her books yet - thanks for the prompt to do so! Blair is a doll that I found at the thrift store 3 times - once in her complete meet outfit and purple sandals! One is still waiting to be cleaned and eventually resold, one I gifted, and one I kept.😁 I don't have any of her collection. I'm still looking for a Joss! Your Joss is a beauty. I do respect your opinions on her story. I go back and forth on Corinne, too. I really enjoyed her story and the stop motion series AG did was well done and fun! But the blue streak is off putting for me as well. Okay, that's all for now, I'll probably write another epistle after the next segment, lol!

I wish for one with lovely hair, but I also love the skin tone she currently has and don't think I'm ready to give that up. Reminded me of what I've heard said about friends: some are here for a season, some for a reason and some for a lifetime. I think the same thing holds true for dolls, or really any collection. So I just watched someone's All My Dolls video and I really like the format. They started with a segment of "who's new", moved on to "who is no longer here", and finished with "who's the same as last year". If I took that approach, there's no reason it couldn't be in-depth. I would just not necessarily expect ppl who've seen this one to watch the third segment of a video like that, but it would be easy for them to get the "updates" portion of the collection.

I had to have intermission at the 1.5 hour mark. But I came back to finish because it was so enjoyable. Since all my dollhouse stuff is pack up until we move, I really have nothing but dolls to photograph. I was thinking of doing bio photos of each doll that I didn't pack up. After watching your video, I really want to do it. Can you tell me what skin tone Bree has? She's beautiful. And I love Corinne as a boy! When I start building my new dollhouse, I'll be calling on Dani for some help. She looks like she knows what she's doing.

Hi Kristie, I have watched this video off and on throughout the day. Not finished yet! I liked hearing that some of your dolls are named after colors even if it wasn’t intentional. Naming dolls can be a difficult but creative process. I guess I am fairly boring as all of my dolls are historicals and I don’t change their names. I do have Corinne though and I named her Aurora after the northern lights. I made a video about selling her and I hope nobody gets mad that I may not after all. 🥰When I am speaking to buyers and sellers I do refer to them as She usually. I Don’t care what anybody thinks either. Mostly they think it’s cute and follow my lead when referring to her. ☺️You and Grace have an amazing collection!

Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed it. And I think you're referring to my comments about JLY#4 (this is testing my memory lol!). I'm only up to three, but on Kanani...if you haven't already sent her into the doll hospital, do some research on other people's unboxing videos of Kanani from the doll hospital. I may be wrong on this, but from the videos I watched, I could swear that the doll hospital heads have shorter hair than originally purchased. Again I may be wrong on this, but for this reason I actually paid a bit more for mine than I normally would for 1 doll, just to make sure she was close to brand new, but not strapped in the box...but also not one having been sent to the hospital. Just thought I'd let you know, but again, double check me on this.

I think Kavi is a good representation of Indian culture. Most of the Indians I’ve known in real life are that light. Unpopular opinion, but I think Sonali and Jasmine are too dark to represent Indian culture. Jasmine is certainly darker than her animated character, and Sonali was much lighter in the Chrissa movie. I’d love to see an Indian with Kaya’s skin tone, just a bit darker than Kavi, but I’ve certainly known Indians as light as Kavi, too. More so than as dark as Sonali. Don’t get me wrong, Sonali is gorgeous, and I do own her.
