I did not get a haircut lol. I filmed this about a month ago. This is an original 1993 collection purchased all together, plus a progress report on my entire Addy collection!
@persnicketypleasantpenelop75052 ай бұрын
OMG, I literally found out that after loving Addy for so many years that I am a descendant of a former slave that had the surname Walker. Even though the Addy character is fiction, when I saw that I just felt the hairs stand up. I loved her stories since I was a child and always wondered about my family and their connection to American slavery or if I would ever know my African ancestors from early 1700s and 1800s pre Civil War since I have info on 1860 U.S census. Very powerful doll series and she was highly marketed in Ebony magazine in 1993 or 1994. But her books are so spot on and evokes a lot of emotions about how freedom came with a price. For my family, her story aligned with my family and their American experience. The paper dolls are magical, wished her 1990s collection offered the doll's paper dolls like they did for Kirsten, Molly and Samantha winter stories' collection.

I have never seen an ugly Addy either but this is certainly a STUNNING Addy. You weren't allowed to have dolls and now have a TON of dolls. What a perfect way to stick it to the people who denied you dolls back in the day. Enjoy those dolls, man.
@lisbetsoda487415 күн бұрын
Even as a girl I feel a bit like Jonathan about not ever having a special toy as a child. No doll for me, except a scary old one from my mother's childhood. I did not grow up in poverty. My parents were very middle class, and I only had one sister. What I suspect is that my parents always thought they knew best. I would get 12 markers, not the 24 I coveted every birthday, I was never with my parents or grandparents in a real toystore. (I grew up in Denmark). I would get books, puzzles and clothes. I got a cool alarm clock one year but that sort of thing, all the way through. When my kids were little, I gave them every quality toy I could give them. Probably too many. And I still have boxes of Brio trains, Playmobil, Lego, Lego, Lego and then AG. After my daughter outgrew them I took over the dolls. At least as a custodian for my grandkids. 😊
@mchobbit295114 күн бұрын
@@lisbetsoda4874 I grew up lower middle class so NOT a lot of money. My parents always tried to get me quality toys I liked, but within reason. Some things were just too expensive for us or my parents knew that I just wanted it because a friend had it or it has on a commercial and wouldn't play with it all that much or I wasn't responsible enough for it (sure, I would have wanted an AG doll at 3...but I would have cut her hair and dragged her everywhere by her limbs, so I fully believe myself that I didn't yet deserve one). I was super into art (still am), and I never got the cheap sets with a ton of crappy supplies. I always had Crayola and Faber Castell. I loved listening to cassette tapes and had so many. My mom got someone to build a doll house for me. It's still in her basement. So that's thankfully not an experience I share. I didn't always get everything I wanted, but I don't have trauma and sadness looking back because I was denied something because my parents' own ideas were forced on me. I was down sometimes because others got so much more for Christmas than me and brag about it in school, but I know now that for one, they had more money than us or were buying themselves into debt and/or that they were getting quantity over quality (lots of boxes of cheap plastic toys that look cool on Christmas to unpack, but they didn't last until spring). It makes me sad when people deny their kids certain toys just based on gender or just not liking certain toys or "you get only educational toys" or whatnot. Now electronics I get, but I don't understand why you'd deny a boy a doll or any kid a 24 pack of markers unless you cannot afford it. Art and imaginative play are GOOD past times you should encourage if you can. Like I'd be glad my kid is not asking for an iPad or a brand name clothing item they want just because their friends have it and gladly get the markers or doll.

500 for that beautiful of an Addy PLUS all of the rest of the collection is lowkey a steal! I’ve been trying to find a really good quality addy just by herself and if the doll doesn’t look like it’s been a car accident they’re such steep prices so I think it’s a great investment for ur collection! Anyone out there who's a big fan of Kirsten and Samantha watch Bobbity Kate's videos, she goes through all of the story books including the paper dolls and cook books while actually cooking some of the recipes. She is very funny and a good story teller. Just be warned the videos are a marathon so you'll maybe have to watch them in parts.

What an awesome collection to find. That trunk is beautiful! I love the items! What a beautiful Addy collection. Such interesting stories and history. Honestly I could listen to you for hours, you have so much tidbits of knowledge So I had to go get my PC Addy out of her chair. I am the second owner she was bought in later 1993 when the Addy collection came out as a 3 outfit set with Addy wearing the school outfit with the award pin and the boots with grommets and her eyebrows seem to have a green tinge to them but the softest eyelashes. Unfortunately she gave the other dresses and items to a relative or I would have bought them. Oh to combat wool moths get cedar balls or disks, it really works on silk as well (I have an antique Kimono collection). I agree on the resin, very toxic. You can repaint the doll eyes for silver eye? I would be interested in an AGoT video series. I agree it is hard to not collect the boxes and collapse them. I would love same videos on all your collections. I will have to look if you have any but if you can hairstyle historical girl videos would be awesome. Sadly I missed some of your sales in your store, but I will be stalking it once the first rolls around.

the beans picture took me out 😭 i was not expecting that i also love hearing you talk abt your memories from when these dolls came out even though you weren't allowed to have AG dolls. I totally relate although as a girl who was allowed to play with dolls my situation was admittedly different. I never had AG dolls growing up (I did get an Engel Puppen as a gift from a relative which was similar quality to AG but I always wanted an AG SPECIFICALLY sooooooo badly) and so now that I'm in my late 20s with late 20 year old money finally and getting yourself the dolls you dreamed about as a lil kid is just SO rewarding and healing to your inner child!! It's so special and these Addys are SO darling 🥺

My original PC/early AG collection is Josefina. I have everything plus other items related to her collection. Addy is newer interest. I don’t like loving a retired collection because it can be expensive to buy any and every little piece! My side tip for casual collectors is that small gourds are available on Etsy for people wanting an inexpensive real gourd. I also have a sample size of Naphey’s of Philadelphia lard tin marked 1776-1876. It is about the size of Addy’s lunch tin. Both were less expensive than PC/AG items.

My 1993 Addy is later as she has grommet boots, I got mine off a worker and she's signed pleasant rowland 1993 what's interesting is she came with her real gourd but a 1994 bonnet yet my childhood (new from catalog) 1997 addy came with a 1993 bonnet. I think storage at the warehouse if things were in a big box you could run into dates being a bit different maybe my childhood 93 hat got shoved to the back and then shipped out later. The MCM sale in the 90s would sell stuff in parts, I know I picked out Sunny and the treats box but the box didn't come with the candy as a kid. The MCM sale was a tradition and I basically got to pick out my Christmas gifts 🥰 and one thing to have right away that day. The downside now as an adult is having to collect all the missing bits!

OMG - the people on Mercari listing individual cards... so annoying. You mentioning how you probably slept with the double-spread catalogue - that totally reminds me of opening the spreads and pretending I had the doll in person since I think they were pretty much to scale. I had a Kirsten, which my mom saved for for Christmas of 1994 when I was 10, but I wanted all of them so badly that I would open the catalogues and pretend I had them. I actually coveted the mini dolls since I figured we were too poor to get another PC AG doll that my mom could get me the minis instead. (That didn't happen LOL) I've been wondering the last few videos why Molly is turned around. FInally answered!
