What a perfectly beautiful hymn tune. Herbert Howells wrote it in memory of his son Michael, who died very young.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. - Romans 15:13

Oh, thank you so much Judi. I just lost my sister 2 months ago today, on Christmas Eve. The pain hurts. The Romans scripture helps. I love the words to this hymn, first learned it back in the late 70's. Thanks for posting.

That's the way it sounds in the nave. That's a fantastic organ. It's got 10,600 pipes. And it's loud! I get goose bumps when I'm in there, standing in the congregation.

So many Childhood memories from the "Mount".

We visited here when my son was four during a small mid-day service. My curious son escaped, crawled on the organ (that the organist had left only minutes earlier) and gave the startled worshipers and guests a "show". Bu the time I got to him he knew he was in trouble. But folks clapped and he took a bow before apologizing.

I think it is the recording setup. It also sounds like there is only one person singing near the microphone.

Microphone placement was obviously in favor of the organ. Given the accoustical environment of that room the organist did a superb job leading the folks. Rhythm never failed!

the organ sounds louder then the people singing but still it sounds very powerfull indeed!!!!

I will be singing there with my Church choir in July 2011. We are coming all the way from little old England. Shame about the closeness of the microphone to the lady singer.

Pardon me if I am wrong but that organ sounds very electronic, have they got a Marshal & Ogletree or somthing in there as well and the pipe organ? perhaps it is the recording. That is one of my favourite hymns.

Hi Pete, just seeing this video for the first time and thus your comment and question. The only digital stops in this 10K plus pipe organ are the 64' Bombarde Basse (which is actually electronic) in the Pedal and there's a complete digital division from Walker Technical Organs in the Nave to support congregational singing that I wished I had known about when I played that gorgeous organ in 2010. Be well and be safe!

I visited the Cathedral. Like a medieval Cathedral.
@pfretz1313 жыл бұрын
@goodchappy I doubt it, as the cathedral started construction in 1907. I believe that in 1976 was the last organ renovation making for a total of 189 ranks. On another youtube video from Washington National Cathedral, there was talk of thinking about adding something, so that the pipes would make it all the way back to the gallery. Doesn't sound as though that happened, as the economy put a hold to many plans.

The organ is a Skinner. The Cathedral announced two winners for construction of separate instruments, with one sounding down the Nave from the West Gallery to ease congregational singing. It's hard to keep the sound together with that much reverb. I am relieved that Dobson did not get to dismantle the Skinner; I dislike their work. Actually, Casavant (Gallery winner) has a 191-rank instrument in Fort Worth that sounds marvelous; the new large Dobson here in dallas in unappealing.

If you are listening to this, wondering if there is a Jesus- He is real. He's complete, tender love and He wants to know you. Look for Him and you'll easily find Him
