The YF-23 and Su-47 skins are definitely things that the planes were never painted in, they were both prototypes that never made it into production, and as such didn't really get the chance to have any alternate paint jobs.

7:10 my headcanon is that Erusea had a bit of J-15s among their Su-33 fleet and IBIS was one of the few Erusean (probably experimental) J-15 pilots. It might also explain why he tries to flee when he spawns so Erusea gets to keep him and the jet.

Yes they are mate. Some of those skins/camouflages are based on realife, the developer usually uses the Xperimental, proto or the Aerobatic team/Flight Demonstrator camo of those fighter in real life.

I've never played this series before. ACE COMBAT skies of deception is the last series i've played. What a great moment, really miss that. Anyway, just for sharing 😊 The MiG-29S (izdeliye 9.13) is belongs to Gromov Flight Research Insitute. This MiG was crashed in RIAT Airshow 1993, one of the airframe (925 Black) broke into 2 parts. and the Su-35S is actually the Su-35BM bort number 902 Black, the 2nd Prototype (as seen on its camo). Which wasn't even done right because it was because Russia was in a Civil War that no one knows about until the Russian division of the UN Peacekeeping Force went AWOL. Also, the tactic was to bring the old fans of Ace Combat back after the fuck up of Assault Horizon, showing off old skins from different Aces from the old games.

I did have it unlocked, I just wanted to keep everything consistent as there are many roundels that are not in game. I stuck to the theme of NATO aircraft having the Osean roundel and everything else having the Erusean roundel. The only exception I made was the Japanese F-2 as I thought the Osean roundels' colors contrasted rather poorly. Thanks for your comment tho!

As a historian I can guess with some certainty "Unnamed Soviet Acrobatics Team" is an English-language research way saying "We couldn't bother to look up the publicly advertised Soviet military team that was doing an airshow for the public, and we don't think anyone reads these captions anyway." Though yes, the acrobatics demonstration team from the Soviet air forces definitely had a name (probably from their home airbase or unit), it wouldn't have been actually unnamed in any case (notably, the Soviet navy didn't name their submarines the way they did in the west, but used designation codes instead, like Japan and Germany during the war).

The YF-23 Lynx is kinda stretch, lol. They cannot figure out a cool and original schemes for the aircraft because irl the airplanes were only comes in cloudy grey and plain black and thry decided to out F/A-18Ds paint scheme instead. Also, seeing that blue camo on the F-22, i remember of news article that Japan were interested in buying Raptors for the JASDF but the deal were prohibited by the DoD to keep their technologies to themselves.

Kinda late to the party but can’t resist to put my opinion here. But I think Namco/Project Aces missed the opportunity to promote JASDF’s absolutely remarkable liveries w this ace mission rewards. Like, there are plenty of beautiful F-15J liveries even the anime-esque ones to choose from; yet they chose the one that look like a discounted Cipher skin. Same w the F-22 skin that should be in the F2A (cuz Tempest’s skin is from the F2A anyway) and replace it w, idk, YF-22 skin maybe. Or maybe from one of the Aggressor F18s that look like to mimic the Russians is perfectly fine. Like what they did to the prototypes (SU-37 & -47, YF-23) mixup that looks cool. The reason behind this is that AC7’s development involves the JASDF as they stated in the roll credits, yet the skin that they brought to the Japanese planes’ aces in game isn’t that great imo. That being said, really love these real life skins added into the game that you can obtain by grind the objectives. I got all of em and happy to use some of it so far.

Back in Ace Combat Zero, the "Mercenary" skin for the Su-27 is based off China's J-11B. From what I've heard, the Chinese are now mailing their aircraft pamphlets to Project Aces, in hopes that their planes will make it in AC8. And PA said they were interested.
