Good info! Its actually better to leave the milk with grains out on a counter - but not in direct sun - it prefers the air circulation that is cut off in a closed cabinet. Also, do not place it in a place where there are chemicals (like a laundry room). Be sure to use whole milk. We use a nylon strainer as its better not to use metal or plastic with anything fermented (wood and glass are best) Applies to making Kombucha, too. Another good thing to be making and drinking.

Excellent tips here Nancy THANK YOU! My sister calls it my "disgusting cabinet milk" cause I leave it in the kitchen cabinet where it's dark. You're 100% right, sunlight is not good for it. Thanks for reminding us :)
