I followed this recipe and used soap calc to make sure it matches up with my mold .. everything looks good but there is a little bit of essential oils seeming to pool at the top in the indents where I used the spoon to decorate .. is this normal? Will it dry up? This is my first time using essential oils ..

Can you share the amount of essential oils you use please?

Around 2-4% of the total weight in oils. So for 36oz .72-1.4 oz. Total essential oils. Each essential oil has a maximum usage rate. Some can be very low like cinnamon leaf at .5 % so you definitely have to combine with other oils to get the maximum of 4%. It’s best to look up each essential oil. So there is a maximum usage rate for soap in general and a maximum usage rate for each individual essential oil. If I’m making any sense but this recipe around the .72-1.4 oz is good. At a 50:50 rosemary:tea tree split.

Sounds like your soap turned out lye heavy, are you sure you measured correctly?

I’m not sure what happened but what I would suggest is mixing your oils and letting your lye cool down then mix with your oils.

Most recipes I see say that the caustic soda water needs to be with in 10 degrees of the oils temperature when adding them together. No expert I’m just getting into making my own soap cheapest I’ve found was 2.50 a bar can’t remember the oz but figured I can make it cheaper.

So if the total water says 13.68 what would you water discount it to I’m still confused. I use all vegan and some cocoa butter
