Fun facts: -The Bulls have worn Stags throwback jerseys in past seasons -when Toronto was awarded an NBA team in the early 90s, they were planning to resurrect the Huskies' name. By that time, however, the Minnesota Timberwolves existed and Toronto management felt any potential logo would be too similar to Minnesota. Why was the BAA formed? Partly because NHL and AHL team owners wanted more dates in their arenas. Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York and Toronto were NHL cities, while Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Providence, St. Louis and Washington were AHL cities (as were Buffalo and Indianapolis). The first president of the BAA was Maurice Podoloff, who was President of the AHL at the time, the first man to lead two professional leagues at the same time.

That's basically correct. Winter entertainment consisted of the Ice Capades and hockey in the northeast. (coming out of the early industrialization, the Depression, and WW ll, most people did not have discretionary income). So the guys who owned arenas created basketball teams to fill dates. Basketball definitely was a regional thing early on, and not that popular.

Houston was supposed to get an expansion team back in 1970 (along with Buffalo,Portland and Cleveland) but they had trouble coming up with the expansion fee and the team was terminated before playing one game.
