You'd only be able to make it big if you proved yourself to a large group of people, and TV would be the only way. Now any person can go online, pretend to be psychic and post some convincing videos and they'll have a fanbase of idiots right away. It's too easy to find things now. You can just blatantly lie and there will always be some amount of people who'll believe you. Therefore they don't need to go on TV anymore to prove themselves.

A guy did and it was lame because it was a computer programming stunt of some sort. Not an organic power. I was so bummed.

I think the scariest part of this is the “psychic” looked in the mirror that morning and said “yep, this is the look I’m going for”

Right? And consider this: Actual money changed hands in an entirely consensual transaction wherein that man offered payment to another human being-likely a professional, at that-in exchange for that haircut. Quite possibly more than once. Apparently there's no equivalent to the Hippocratic Oath for barbers... this is far more barbaric than anything done during the profession's historical role as pre-sterilization/anesthesia surgeons.

Watching an old guy waving a stick around pretending he's psychic is both sad and hilarious

What is really sad is that he seems to believe that his efforts will actually succeed. Delusional.

I doubt that he "genuinely wants to know if people have powers". He knows with almost absolute certainty that they don't, and that all those people are just fraudsters. His intent is to expose them. But it is very smart to treat them as respectfully as possible, just as a common courtesy, and to avoid as much as possible allegations of intimidation, cheating or other underhanded tactics. And if as a bonus some of them come out and admit that they were mistaken, all the better.
