One small detail, Pivot continues to cheap out and not use guided tubes for the internal routing. Their ports system for internal routing is just big holes in the frame with bolt on clamps at the entry and exit. Even before COVID related supply chain issues, the Pivot frames are expensive enough, I’d gladly take the extra grams for ease of service/maintenance. Cable routing always seems to be an afterthought on Pivots. This one is an improvement, but still not what it could be. In my opinion.

I'm curious about this bike and the Pivot brand. For over 5 years I rode an Ibis Ripley, then went on to a V1 Ripmo. As much as I loved the Ripley and was suited for 98% of my riding, once in awhile I felt I needed that extra stability on descents which the Ripmo fills that void now. I've heard that the 429 offers more stability than the Ripley and wonder if that would be the "sweet spot" or would the Switchblade be the ticket. Regardless of where and how I ride I do appreciate the extra stability when descending.

Having owned a Mach 6 and a Mach 5.5, I don't understand why they haven't made a 140/150 29er (Mach 5). It's no wonder the Ibis Ripmo and SC High Tower have become very popular bikes while Pivot seems to be bypassing on this travel sweet spot. I'd rather ride a Pivot but it seems like the Ripmo is looking better each year that goes by. Great review nonetheless

I’m considering this bike but torn between the trail vs enduro build. I know that new 36Fox fork is pretty amazing and I’ve had older versions and loved them. With that said, I’m currently running the 34Fox 130 on my hardtail and it’s not limited at all and handles my local trails perfectly. What’s your deciding factor for enduro or trail build?
@TheLoamWolf3 жыл бұрын
I would say go for it. The Enduro build is not going to hold you back on the climbs by any big stretch. I am sure a pro XC rider can really tell the difference but for us mortals I think the extra travel really makes the downs that much more fun. This would be a really good step up from a HT if you are looking for a solid all around bike. It's remarkably capable both up and down, like scary good haha. The Enduro model's HT angle will make it a bit more twitchy on climbs but after some seat time it's not that noticeable. - Cole

If you are someone coming from a xc, road and gravel racing background who can climb and is used to a yeti 4.5 ( bought it instead of the old 429) what would I realize w the fox 36 and dpx2 shocks in the enduro vs the standard shock set up. I can't tell how much more the enduro weighs and if you think it will climb the same or not. I ride all over CA, Moab, Fruita, Bend etc. And have ridden all the epic trails on hardtails, a mach 4 and my yeti 4.5...just wondering if it makes sense to upgrade to the Enduro model for perhaps a bit more fun in technical descents. Did you get a chance to test the enduro and the regular 429? Just wondering what you'd think of riding the enduro on classic xc rides and riding like on Tam and in CO where you have hour long+ climbs...thoughts?
@TheLoamWolf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark! I did not get to ride the regular version. Coming from a background mostly in DH and Enduro to me this is PLENTY light and capable on long climbs. My 37lb personal enduro bike is frequently used for 3+ hours of climbing back home in WA. The weight gain is pretty marginal but I think the benefit is big. Again I can't speak to the performance of the regular version. I think the slacker HT angle would have more of an effect climbing than a couple hundred grams on weight. It was hard for me to really push the bike to it's max on this terrain as I am so used to PNW dirt and roots, with that said I know I can get PR's back home on this both going up and down!

Hi Cole! Awesome video. You're a very humble dude. Really get a lot out of your riding footage. I do have a question. Can you comment on your saddle height (center of BB to top of saddle), what size bike that is, and your height? I'm assuming it has 175mm cranks and 55mm stem if it's a Medium or Large. THanks for your time!
@TheLoamWolf3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Terry! I try to really explain the feel of the bike as best I can. Those are great questions, the cranks are 175mm (Size Large), stem from what I measured is 45mm. Unfortunately that stem length was not in any of our documents. Saddle height sits at 32.25”, the dropper was really my only big complaint with the bike. But with that said that’s pretty much the same issue I have with every bike as I have a very long inseam for my height!
@terrybest37003 жыл бұрын
@@TheLoamWolf Thanks so much for this information, Cole!. I'm like you but a size down. My saddle height is ~77.5cm. So on a Medium I'd be dealing with quite a bit of drop and a massive amount of seatpost. And also being an older school rider (and first time on a 29er, lol) I know wheelbase will take some getting used to. I ended up going with a Size Large. After back surgery etc figured I'd feel more comfortable with the stability and more level cockpit. You have a hugely tall saddle height. You'd be a great team mate on the road bike, lol.
