Honda is straight up selling the best stock setup in a motorcycle period! The thing is a blank slate for modders and tuners, a well rounded commuter for those wanting to keep it stock as well as a nice and even better beginner/intermediate bike for riders wanting to refine their skills and have fun ! All in all an excellent investment!

Prefer the “sporty” look of the last gen Grom. New one has an “ADV” look. What’s with the giant body bolts?? I think they should have made an “ADV” style as well as a “sport” style. Give the ADV version some knobbies, less body work, and a little more suspension, give the sport model some grippy rubber and more fairings.

The giant body bolts are there so it’s super easy and super accessible to take the panels off to change them out or customize them. They made it super easy for people to customize it, as that’s one of the huge things that the grom is known for.

Honda has always followed the aftermarket closely and responds well. That is quite evident in the new seat, clutch cover, and 5 speed. Of course, those are the easiest and most cost effective to make to a production unit. It's not like we're going to see Ohlins level quality suspension any time soon, but then, that would be a major price jump.

Nice video! Close to having one to fab some parts for it. I would like some blinkers for handle bar ends , but maybe with different attachments (rubber plug style expanders some use to keep them in bars like the universal freeze plugs have ) so buyers can add to stock or fat bars. Reason I want blinkers some where else is because I want to mount some extra l.e.d head lamps where the blinkers usually mount, but mainly to have something different. Thx.

@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 3 жыл бұрын
From a mass manufacturing standpoint, they probably wanted to repurpose the same motor as much as possible. Sure, they have a 150 motor that they can put in the Grom but I think they want to reuse the 125cc motor as much as possible. It's fairly bulletproof and a perfect size to avoid needing different motors for different regions of the world.
@jonpram1737
@jonpram1737 3 жыл бұрын
@@TSTindustries it’s really common though. Even Honda do it with the PCX. All they do is use the same bottom end and use a different top end for Europe and the rest of the world. It’s financially viable as so many bikes already do it, largely thanks to the popularity of 150’s in Asia and the legal requirements for 125’s In Europe. Unfortunately I think the reason is as simple as it sells well enough, so why bother making something better? It’s kinda the same as the pricing on the ct125 here in Australia: ‘people will probably pay that because it’s cute’ rather than their being any logical reason a ct125 should share a price bracket with the crf250l lol

Since you have both bikes in front of you... Can you tell if the fork and shock are unchanged? I have my 2022 ordered and I want to order suspension parts ahead of time. Would be great to have parts waiting for the bike to arrive. I haven't even seen fiche available out there yet on the 22 to compare part numbers.

DOOOOOOO ITTTTYT! Holy cow, the front is still a pogo stick for a 7 year old. I barely hand bounced the front from below on a lift almost to the bottom stop. Shock seems a bit better but yhe front has no spring or damping.

I wonder if this has the same cylinder head as the old model? For intake purposes.. Trying to go ahead and get a parts list together and might order an intake so I'll have it once this baby arrives in my living room!

They re-configured the bore and stroke so different piston and internals. We have not measured the head yet.

@@rogerw3818 That's just info That I got from doing some research on the bike. Most people beat the hell out of these bikes. I'm sure with less aggressive use and timely maintenance that the engine will last a lot longer.

@@mutantartificialintelligen3411 We have a sizable GROM community in the area. I have a '17 myself, almost 11K on the miles now, over 8K of those with an upkitted engine. We all "beat the hell" out of them, and no one is doing anything out of the ordinary when it comes to maintenance. I get that there are a;ways stories about "a guy who had X, Y. and Z problems", but real world experience was shown me that those are , by far, the minority.

Looks awful what was Honda thinking what a mess I have a 2018 and absolutely love it. I would upgrade if they didn’t totally mess up the look. I’m sure they will update this mess and everyone will then come out and say what a disaster it really is.

Eh, I think it will grow on many people once they release. The same was said about the SF Grom when it initially released and the 2015+ R1 when it was announced. Only time will tell.

Looks wise, I do not care for the fasteners for the plastics. Reminds me of the “bullet hole” stickers that were all the rage 10 years ago. As far as the removable oil filter, there is an aftermarket clutch cover with oil filter that has been available for years. Fifth gear may be nice, but if the final drive bearing is the same, it will jut be bother gear to get me up to the same top speed I go now. The flat seat makes sense to me,but my seat can be reworked if I want. When they put in a 175cc, I will look to replace my 2019.
