Biggest I'd get as a noob would be a GSXR600. I started on a Ninja 650 then got 3 GSXR600, R3. Grom, Hypermotard 1100... Now on a Z1000. But want a CBGrom300RR!!!

The diode prevents people from hot-wiring your ignition live. The ECU will only accept the (time to perform) signal when it sees the resistance of that diode. Remember this if you ever replace the keys and locks on bikes.
@qoph1988
@qoph1988 5 ай бұрын
The diode is also present on older bikes with carburetors and points ignition and no ECU to speak of though. It can usually be removed with some creative wiring if you don't mind not having a clutch interlock for the starter. Sounds like it already served a purpose and then used to serve an additional security function since that's just a good idea when you have an ECU onboard. Otherwise I don't see why they wouldn't just use a resistor

For fuel Air ratio adjustment, I used a resistor in between the O2 exhaust sensor and the unit. Though the ECU reads the signal digitally, it still enriches the mixture to the point where 1kOhms resistor gets black exhaust soot. But you can feel what setting works best. It's a bit of give and take. Too high of a resistor (I tried with a 1kOhms pot) and the top end suffers, but the bottom will ride great. Too low, and the bottom end suffers. So a mixture (I think I used a 250Ohms resistor, but don't quote me on that).

I had a 250 Kawasaki Samurai back in the 70's; thought THAT was complicated compared with it's rotary disc valves compared to the 250 Villiers engined James that I previously rode in the 60's ! This 250 make those things look like a T-model Ford in comparison; at least petrol gravity feed to a simple carburettor and a VERY basic electrical system made them easy for a teenage kid to work on then,................ I'm still modifying and riding motorcycles in my 70's ! Thank you for an entertaining channel !

its crazy because I thought of getting one of those Chinese Grom clones and swapping a 250 engine in it, i thought it would be easy because they would be both carbureted and both air cooled... but I just noticed you did it the right way (without being lazy with those two things I mentioned)

Why not just swap the whole front end of the CBR ? Instead of worrying about controls, plugs, gauges etc... Plus get a brake and suspension upgrade presumably.

I would assume the forks are substantially longer and the tires are bigger. It wouldn't work I don't think.

instead of thinking of it as an engine swap, it's more like slapping the internals of another bike into Grom platform/external parts

Of course it would be easier. Where's the fun in that? With that mindset, why would anyone ever swap a more powerful engine into ANY vehicle?

When I was a teenager a few friends and I put a Yamaha 650 engine on a go cart frame.... After a few steps forward and a few steps back we had a ignorant amount of speed in a flimsy frame less than 3 inches from the asphalt. It was fast, way too fast. Yes we all maxed the thing out on our neighborhood streets, and no one got hurt... I think we lost interest in it when we all got real cars or motorcycles.

Put a screen in the intake it’ll help atomize the fuel too I do it to small go kart engines when they get modified just to help break up the fuel since I run richer than factory it’s tricky but doable and I’ve even seen them for sale

What is the top speed?
@thagingerninjer5391
@thagingerninjer5391 Ай бұрын
The top speed will be whatever the top speed of the cbr was, since the gearing stayed the same. It will be physically limited to engine rpm and gearing, regardless of it being in a lighter, smaller bike. It will just get to the top speed faster.

I was wondering why Kawasaki made their little z125 to be the grom killer but they didn’t put a 250 or even a 200 or even a 150 motor in it. I was guessing it had something to do with engine size laws and all that but seeing this guy put a 250 in a grom makes me very happy. If I were him I’d make the tires slightly bigger and maybe a little big bigger suspension and make it a step up from the grom in all areas. Good shit making this tho man.

Bigger wouldnt make it handle better. Bikes aren't like cars.

@@chrispekel5709yep. It’s now going to be limited by its height. Making it taller won’t make it handle better, but it will allow you to lean over farther, and that will allow you to corner faster.

You can use a small fabric mesh over the intake or pantyhose I think is a common thing for sandy environments. Otherwise you can make a metal mesh dome and cover that as well to keep it from getting sucked in while still providing good airflow.

Very nice power upgrade. it would be really nice if honda started offering the grom with larger engine size choices. even a 650cc would be really nice. and of course the frame and entire motorcycle would be increased in strength to handle the increased power. i just like the smaller size of the grom, but really need significantly more engine power. 125cc is not even close to enough power for my comfort. i like to be able to move out of the way quickly, as needed, when needed. and overall, i enjoy a more powerful motorcycle, while simultaneously being able to fit the motorcycle well. the grom really is the perfect size motorcycle. it just needs reinforcements where needed, and much much more power, for those of us that prefer more power to be available, at any given time.
