Here in the UK we have had these for a few years now. I was contemplating buying one, after the two Vespa GTS 300's I have owned. Back in the day I have owned a Lambretta SX 150 and after that a GP 200. The nostalgia is strong with me, I was part of the scooter scene back in the early seventies. The fashion, the night life and run outs. We have a saying, scootering, it's a way of life. It still is for me. Anyway, I didn't buy the Royal Alloy for a number of reasons. I tour with my GTS and I need storage space. I looked at the fold down rack and a top case as you call them in America but I still hadn't got the underseat space. When my wife and I tried sitting on one there didn't seem to be too much space regarding the seat, we are average size people. The final thing is that the Royal Alloy look's great new but after a couple of years I have seen a few rough ones. I may be wrong but I think they need a lot more love and care than a Vespa. After all the Vespa exhausts and alloy casings can look shabbie pretty quickly and take some looking after to stay new looking but not like some of the Royal Alloys I have seen. I haven't had the rust problems with the three Vespa's I have owned that some have, a took delivery of a new GTS HPE last month. So, whatever you choose ride safe and have a great time.

Interesting review of the GP300. Over here in the UK I have a Vespa PX which I use for the shorter rides and have a Royal Alloy GP200 for the longer rides. I’ve owned the GP for 3 years and apart from a few minor faults it’s been a brilliant scooter. Mine are also kept away from the dreaded winter salt which tends to eat scooters alive😬

The GTS 300 needs a makeover, or at least a classically styled body to run in a parallel with the modern iteration. Something akin to the SS180 to compete with Royal Alloy's "Lambretta".

Great review, as always. It's obvious you personally prefer Vespas but are able to review the RA impartially. I prefer the styling of the RA since I always liked the looks of the Lambretta over the Vespa. And the original reason for the Vespa rear styling (side mounted motor) doesn't even exist anymore. But for the relatively small price difference I think I'd go with the Vespa for the better resale value, bigger dealer network, and the security of knowing they aren't going to go out of business and leave me with an orphan. BTW, those passenger pegs appear to be the same as on my Kymco 150 Like, if so I found that they tend to rattle, especially at low speeds away from a stop.

This point makes it awesome for scooterist that repair their own scooter and scooterist that might not have the complete knowledge but want to know what is going on with their scooter when it acts up. I wish Vespa would do this with the modern Vespas.

I've driven my GP300S 3000 miles. As a new scooter rider , it was a toss-up between the GP and the GTS. For me lack of under seat storage was not a deal breaker because I live in a rural area where crime is non existent. Thus I found a rear folding rack and a 20 liter bag to be adequate. Heck oftentimes I dont use the rear folding rack and travel with the sprint rack. I can easily tie down my 40 L Bag On the rear rack and keep a 20L bag behind the handle bars. I just admire the Styling of the RA 300. I acually admire the styling of their GT-150 more. Never said I would buy 🇨🇳 products that the GP300S is assembled in Thailand 🇹🇭 allowed me to risk my marbles on RA over the Italians. Chances are that I am wrong. But for now I have a wonderful scooter. We'll see how it holds up. It appears Genuine Scooter is all in and ready to support RA. All I need is to keep it serviced. I'm going to do some serious driving . Oh yeah I had a slow oh so slow accident. Gping to get the GP300S minor damages fix. I cant wait to get back on the road.

The styling of the RA is awesome but I am reading so much of problems with getting parts and with warranty claims etc. The biggest problem with them seems to be the digital display especially the fuel gauge & build quality. But like I say its a great looking scooter. Its tough to decide, be interesting to see how you get on with repairs etc to them. I was even advised by a RA dealer to go for a Vespa GTS 300....read so much positivity about the Vespa and after watching your videos which are amazing it looks like it will have to be a Vespa. Now what model ? Keep the awesome videos coming.

Interesting take on this, Robot. Like the overall look, but besides to potential additional maintenance headaches vis-a-vis your garden-variety Vespa GTS, one *big* sticking pointer me is the floorboard height, which reminds me of the high floorboards of NIU's electric scooters (which I'm intimately familiar with, by way of Revel's NYC scooter-share program). That height drives me more than a little nuts on Revel's scoots, but since I rent the tings by the minute, I can deal; buy something like that to take home? Maybe not. But, more scoots to choose from, rather than less, is almost always a Good Thing.

@nsoul84692 жыл бұрын

@@nsoul8469 I worked for a Yamaha, Kawasaki, Vespa dealer that started in business in 1958. I started working there part time evenings and Saturdays January through May slashthe busy season here in the Northeast in 1978.. The owner was teaching me to be a salesman instead of a mechanic, which i was at 2 other Honda/Yamaha shops. But he wanted me to be in sales.. he said I had a lot of product knowledge and I am a likable guy. So he started teaching me, and am I glad he did, I was making way more money selling bikes, and I didn’t get dirty..this man was a professional salesman, he wasn’t just somebody that owns a motorcycle shop. He was in sales and bought a motorcycle shop for fun after he made his millions. I do definitely remember him telling me, to turn all the vespa lookers over to him, because, he said those people are completely different than people that are interested in Yamaha or Kawasaki motorcycles. And I remember him telling me and seeing ads on posters, that they have a 100% lifetime warranty on the transmissions of Vespas.. maybe they dropped that warranty policy over the last 40+ years, but I never forgot that because that’s risky to give a lifetime warranty on something like that.. then again maybe it’s like those television auto warranties that they have every other commercial on television that make you think you’re getting a great warranty, when actually you’re not. A buddy of mine is a BMW convertible lover. He has one of those extended warranty things from television. $155 a month. His driver seat Frame broke, not covered his power window would not go up and down, not covered some type of a sensor on his radiator went bad, not covered his convertible top would not go up and down anymore with a push of a button. Not covered his automatic transmission selector/shifter that allows you to go from automatic to semi auto mode, not covered.. I would like to hear what Chris Berman has to say about that since he is a commercial rep for that company.. maybe you have to jump through all kinds of hoops like having the dealer change the transmission oil every year and make adjustments to the cable shifter mechanism every year to get the warranty to stay in force…Who knows, but I do remember that Vespa scooters had a lifetime warranty on the transmission back in the 70s

@@nsoul8469 then I guess the answer is NO..Vespas do not still have the lifetime warranty on their transmissions.. that’s too bad because I would never have considered a Vespa, but when I heard that warranty, that impressed me to the point where I thought, these things must be pretty damn good for them to give that kind of a warranty.. that dealer that I worked for part time that was a Kawasaki, Yamaha, Vespa dealer, never stocked Vespas. I never saw one come into the service department. I have seen people come in and inquire about getting one, but I never sold one. I never rode one, I’ve only seen maybe 10 of them in my whole life here in western Pennsylvania USA. I actually worked with a guy at my real job, that he and his wife both bought brand new Vespa motorcycles about 2012 or 2014. They were relatively expensive I thought.. anyway that guy rode that thing to work about 6 miles one way through neighborhoods mostly not on the highway for years.. I always felt that the wheels were too small for the potholes we get here around Pittsburgh with the thaw/ freeze cycles we get here in December, and especially in March when the snow is melting, and the roads get craters in them. Lots of truck traffic around a big commercial/industrial city like Pittsburgh to tear up the roads.. that is the reason I never got interested in scooters… but my best riding friend since high school shocked the hell out of me one day. He had a BMW K 1200 RS. Once he got to know that machine and see how much it is to maintain one at the dealer, he could not wait to get rid of that machine. He put it up for sale, nobody wanted it enough to buy it, but a dealer was willing to take it on trade on a Suzuki Burgman 650 … my friend did not tell me what he was thinking when he made that decision to trade in his BMW on a scooter… I was actually almost yelling at him, what the hell is the matter with you. How are we gonna do 500 mile days with you riding on that toy… boy was I in for a surprise. I was very surprised at how fast that thing was. 650 CC, manual or automatic shifting, enormous under seat storage, two cylinder, water cooled, fuel injected, and the motor wasn’t attached to the swinging arm like a Vespa which is horrible when you consider unsprung weight. It did not even have belt drive. It had a succession of primary and idler gears transferring power from the transmission to the rear wheel.I really liked it

For those of us not familiar with each model of Vespa to compare this to that model back and forth gets confusing and not helpful. The reason I watch the video is because I think this ridiculous manufacturer located the radiators underneath between the front and back wheel where if you got high centered on something you could tear up the radiator. Also to find out there is zero under the seat storage omg those are two really terrible designs. If he's going to critique it be realistic and be harsh where the hell is the under the what's under the seat then?? Why in the world don't these stuck in history scooter brands locate the radiators in that front fairing physically like a dirt bike but aesthetically they could fit them in there and they could have it lever to open them up and you would have heat in the winter time. Wow these scooter manufacturers are really not creative at all. Also I wanted to let this guy know that Joe Haller is still making motorcycle racks and still in business in San Marcos and if your store would like to carry his racks you would be supporting a local business of high quality motorcycle and scooter carriers and you wouldn't be buying from some stupid company that redesigns their rack every two years and what you own is become obsolete and there's hard to find parts and they're all plastic. Oh, yes-I'm sure the the RA is a hella lot of fun to ride when all's running right, but doubtfully more fun than mine.
