All New BMW R18 TRANSCONTINENTAL - FIRST LOOK

This is the new BMW R 18 Transcontinental motorcycle.
With the new R 18 Transcontinental, BMW is adding a Grand American Tourer to the R 18 family.
It combines the thrilling power of the Big Boxer, with a classic chassis concept based on historical models, exclusive equipment, and a stylish design.
This makes the R 18 Transcontinental, ideal for travelling and long-distance rides, in American riding style, both for riding solo and with a pillion and luggage.
Special features of the new R 18 Transcontinental include:
Front fairing with high wind shield, wind deflector and flaps,
Cockpit with four analogue round instruments and 10 point 25 inch TFT colour display, additional headlamp, Marshall sound system, engine protection bars, cases, top case, seat heating, chrome trim, and an engine in Silver metallic.
The heart of the new R 18 Transcontinental, is a 2-cylinder boxer engine.
The most powerful 2-cylinder flat, twin engine ever built in motorbike series production, boasts an engine capacity of 1,802 c c.
It generates an output of 91 hp, at 4 750 r p m.
In the 2,000 to 4,000 r p m range, it delivers more than 150 Nm of torque, at all times, as well as elemental pulling power and sonorous sound.

This video has great sight lines on the bike. It is a gorgeous bike. I’ve had mine for two weeks and it it fine to ride. To me, it’s a sporty cruiser with tech galore.

Does anyone know if it has cruise control, Sirius/XM & adjustable windshield?? I believe it would be foolish NOT to have those to be able to compete with Harley & the Goldwing!

It has adaptive cruise control, but a fixed windscreen. It also has a reverse, which HD does not.

Interesting bike. I really want to like this bike. As an Indian Roadmaster owner, looking to change bikes this has sparked by interest. However no top box rack, lowers and cooling seat? So not quite there. That said , great looking, superb tft, sound system and reverse gear !!!!. I am interested but we are not the bagger owners of the past. We are the new breed so to speak. We what the looks and tech combined. BMW is so close here, but it needs to be exceptional to take us away from the brands we love. BMW can fix this now, then work on the dealers to meet the demand and success beckons . Anyway all the best BMW. Maybe I will make the change one day.

Most likely is but if it needs service or has a problem then you will have get to big BMW service shop as most shops will not a BMW. That is the problem I had with my older r1200gs. After it was burned by POS Harley riders I bought a Honda AT which is reliable also and can work done easily and I guess if parts are need they easier to get. This a great looking bike but is more like a car as is Honda Goldwing.

I supose that This motorclycle was built thinking in ciclystic and Confort. And This Boxer engine is prefect for this. Anyway, comparing with HD ( that does not inform how Many HP- Horse Power their engines have), the New R18 could be a New Sensation On Two wheels. I expect see a lot of R18 Rubinho in Brazil!!

The R18 engine produces 91 bhp, the standard shift cam 1250cc BMW boxer engine produces 134 bhp.

At 945lbs the BMW is really heavy..the Gold Wing Tour is 112lbs lighter and has that awesome flat 6 that puts over 100ftlbs of torque to the rear wheel at 1200 rpms...this BMW is certainly not a Gold Wing killer..LOL

@@vikernes1989 Years ago I owned a Honda Valkyrie Interstate. I was told by a HD rider" it looks like a Harley". The R18 looks nothing like a harley other then 2 wheels and a seat.

It looks similar to the Harley Electra Glide and the Indian Roadmaster. By comparing both bikes, BMW took cues from both, merged them, and finally put a BMW twist on it. Just saying it is another variation coming to the market. I am sure some will be sold. Having a HD, I would be interested in upgrading to the BMW.
