Thanks for watching! Just to address a few repeat comments: 1. "There's no user port!" - Actually the user port header is in a different place on the U64 but it's there. I love that the USer port slot is now USb ports ;) 2. "Why are there 2 'F' keys?" - Just a draft printing error 🤦♂️ 3. "There's no SID chip!" - It's recreated in the FPGA chip or you can add new ones like SwinSID. 4. "Why not just put Cherry MX keys on it?" - They don't fit the special keys like Return, Restore, Shift, Space. See MechBoard website for details. 5. "Where can I get the keycaps?" - perifractic.com ! Thanks for going stack to the future with me! Cherry-o and cheers everyone! 👍🕹

You might consider designing a set of 3D printed basis that go directly from the MX keys to your key caps. If printed in ABS (much harder to get the fit right), they could even be placed in a quick acetone vapor bath to smooth them out. Wouldn't look original, but could look professionally made.

It was great to watch this when it premiered. As a 22-year old, I've only ever messed with the C64 (and other systems) in an emulator, but I always like seeing videos like this and hearing stories from people older than me who actually had these when they were still in production. Great video as always! 👍🏽

While I'm old enough (at age 40) to have remembered using a relative's C64 as a kid, it wasn't nearly as popular here in Canada (or the US) as it was in Europe and other regions back in the day. As a result, most of my exposure to it has also been through emulation, so it's always fun to see what kinds of stuff people were doing and are currently doing with them, as it was quite a machine in its heyday.
@KuraIthys5 жыл бұрын
Quite the thing. The only time I saw a c64 in action in person, which was already somewhat past it's peak, would've been my friend who had one (and a bunch of amigas) but this was already the early 90's... That was maybe 1-2 days that I saw it in action. I'm old enough to remember these systems on the tail end, but my personal experience consisted entirely of atari 800XL's... Even that was a strange experience in hindsight, since I experienced the entire thing through a monochrome green monitor, such that nowadays I barely recognise the games when I see them in colour... XD

Oh and hundreds, possibly thousands of programs and games. I miss it. I even modified one 64 to use two SID chips to play six part music programs. Sadly I gave it all away! I was involved in many user groups spanning two states. Please continue these videos.

Its very cool! Though MechBoard64 pre-orders are closed for the Fall 2019 batch (according to its website), and its up in the air if there will be any more batches after that (depends on demand). @@RetroRecipes This is very soft licorice (1/10 or 2/10) .. if you like it let me consider sending you some more "serious" licorice ;) (ie stronger flavour and and more salty)

Wow, haven't seen liquorice pipes in the UK for a very long time. Same with candy cigarettes and sweet tobacco. All banned because they "promote smoking"

Not sure if my previous comment made it through, so please forgive me if this is a double-post: I find it funny that you managed to combine the use of LEGO bricks with the Commodore 64, and I'll tell you why: My mother used to work at the North American LEGO manufacturing facility for many years, which happened to be located in my hometown. As a kid, I remember being able to walk through the facility and see the various production lines which handled things like the molding of the plastic pieces and the packaging of the sets. Back then, we also owned a Commodore 64, which I spent many hours on learning to program and play games. You can imagine my delight as I happened to walk through the plant one day and looked up above the machinery on the floor to the monitors that were stationed above each production line, to find that each line had a Commodore 64 next to the monitor that showed the status of the line. I remember being surprised at the thought that a place as big and complex as LEGO would be running their equipment on a computer system that I could program at home. In retrospect, I feel like there's some sort of natural synergy between LEGO and Commodore - to me, at least. Here's hoping that we'll see LEGO produce the Brixtyfour sooner rather than later!

While it might be kind of surprising that LEGO was using those C64's it makes a lot of sense. They were cheap, readily available, and would do the job. Going with regular commercial equipment would have cost a LOT more.

That's fascinating. Thank you for sharing!

I could care less about the Commodore C64 then or today. I still sat on the edge of my seat watching this whole video build. As much as I loved the old machines and sound I was always ready for the newer faster better color and sound machines myself. Love 8 bit sounds nothing better. I really enjoyed this video and it is very cool and impressive you met your criteria and I really enjoyed the LEGO keyboard. I know I am a freak because I am not ordering 3 of these but I want to wish you well on sales I think this is amazing and it looks like it will be hours if not months of fun for you all. I do want computer history preserved. Always enjoy your videos.
